View Full Version : Classifer
Is there another Classifier scheduled for this year?
Shot my 1st Match in SD this weekend and enjoyed it greatly. CoF's were fun and the Black Hills members are good people. I wouldn't say the same with my shooting but...
I'll be honest, my knees and hands were shaking hard on the first couple of strings but I had a great time. I really wanted it to be a 2-day shoot!
I plan to attend the July match but will need some extra info from MD's or SO's regarding the Safety Course...and as mentioned in the "Subject", when the next Classifier may be.
I'm sure everyone is probably busy with State coming up next weekend, though.
I can't believe it has taken me this long to find something as enjoyable as IDPA.

What the heck is a "classifer"?
Classifier...sorry for the misspelling.
FRIDPA already had their classifier match for the year. Northern Colorado IDPA may still have one, you would have to check their website. There may be a West slope club still having one before the state match as well.
The classifier is where IDPA members get ranked according to ability based on score (Novie, Maksman, Sharp Shooter, Expert...). Everybody shoots the same COF and you are slotted based on score with the type of weapon you are shooting.
Thanks for the info Sticks.
BTW - my self deprecating humor called out my misspelling of "classifier"...said personality trait allows me to accept criticism easily [ROFL1]

PS - Still interested in hearing from an MD or SO about the Safety Course.

Exactly what info are you looking for?

Does the below help? It is from the FAQ thread stickied at the top of this forum.
How often are the new shooter intro classes offered?
“New to IDPA” shooter classes are offered prior to every FR IDPA Match and are free of charge. We do ask that you contact us via email at fridpa (at) juno dot com to let us know that you will be coming. Show up by 7:30 and we will have someone available to run you through the ins and outs of IDPA. If you have an IPSC classification or have proof that you have competed in an IDPA, USPSA or ICORE match somewhere else, the class is not required.
Perfect.
I guess I should've looked at the website before posting the question.
Thanks.

I read the thread and saw....there is only 1 classifier per year at Clear Creek....is that correct?
I keep missing the classifiers! [Rant2]
The IDPA Classifer, while a great drill, is somewhat boring to shoot. And if you do not have a lot of spare mags, it can take a long time to get through.
Most people would rather have a field course than a classifer.

Yeah I have heard it is pretty boring. I've got 25 mags so I generally don't reload all that much during a match unless its the Rocky Mountain 300!
