Should be I concerned about this gap and what is either unparkerized or rubbed off from the gas block slipping?

chances are your gas port in your barrel is not aligned with your gas port in the gas cylinder. If you pull out your gas piston and look from the bottom of the gas cylinder to the bottom of the barrel you should be able to check for alignment. if it is not aligned your gas cylinder needs to move closer to the receiver.

The gun has cycled fine as long as I've had it, consistently ejects between 2 and 3 o'clock.

My borelight isn't bright enough to see through the gas port. I need to find a longer straight piece for it...

Go to page 18 on this site / document-

It tells about the gas lock. Yours might be loose.

Not an expert or anything but I hope this helps.

The gas cylinder is not seated correctly.
It is probable that the stock is a smidge long, the front ferrule is bent slightly preventing the cylinder from seating fully or the gas cylinder/lock is out of spec.
The silver band is from the cylinder moving under fire it appears. Bad ju-ju.
What type of groups are you getting? I would not be surprised that it is very inconsistent.
Do not fire the weapon until this is resolved, the chances of damaging the cylinder and or operating rod exists(expensive).
It may be a simple fix such as shimming it or more involved.
Come see me, I know the platform well.
On what bobbyfairbanks said: if the cylinder/port are aligned correctly a 1/16" allen wrench will pass through the cylinder/port. No light required!

Using my calipers it looks like the gas block is about .116 inches forward of the handguard cap as well as the smooth spot on the barrel.

Bert, what are your hours? I can never seem to get ahold of you.

Point 1- something is definitely amiss, the cylinder should be snug against the ferrule.

Point 2-????????? The couple of times you have contacted me have been via e mail and I have responded promptly. My contact information is in my IP section and stickied.

Ah yeah, I never go in those forums. See too many cool things I can't afford.

The opening in the gas cylinder is rectangular to allow for some forward / back placement. If the rifle cycles fine, not a big deal. If it bothers you, unscrew the lock and tap the cylinder back toward the receiver with a piece of wood. Then screw on the lock and plug.

The unparkerized portion that you see is normal. It is a smooth finish to mate better with the gas cylinder and have a good gas seal.

Thanks for the info 10x

Bert, I'll still swing it by you, I think. I'll give you a call.

Sounds good-looking at the front band/ferrule, it needs a little luvin!
