View Full Version : Installing a front Sling Swivel
Hey,
Does anyone happen to have the press that installs the front sling swivel rivet? I can probably make something that will work, but if anyone happens to have the press and I could come over and press one in, that would be cool. I am finishing up my A1 603 build and need to put the sling swivel back on.
I used a punch. Tapped it in.

Prick punch to start the rivet, then a 3/16 or bigger to flatten it.
I will give it a try, the only problem is, I dont have anything that will fit up the other side to hold the rivet.
i shall have to ponder it, maybe use a big flat headed punch on the other side...

I use a very steep angled center punch to start and then a 3/16" roll pin punch. The nub in the center keeps it centered on the hollow of the rivet well. A couple sharp raps work better than light taps-doesnt work harden the rivet.

I didn't buy an A-Frame Block like they show in the video. I think I used a piece of scrap wood that was high enough to back up to the A-frame. I put a large washer in top of the wood to act as an "anvil" against the other side of the rivet.
I had a second set of hands to help me. You really don't have to hit too many times on that punch to get the rivet started and finished. Like BPTactical said above. Just a couple sharp raps will do.
