Good radio for car camping?

This would be for camping in the boonies, anyone listen to radio at night? What SW stations can you pick up (in what areas?)

I know they are pricey, but I really like the Yaesu, and Icom hand held recievers. They have a wide recieve range, can be modded to go further, and use little to no power. They are tiny and get good reception, and can be attached to just about any antenna setup (come with a little rubber ducky antena)

One of the things to keep in mind for a "Camp Radio" is many of the smaller ones sound like crap.

Not to be confused with a SHTF radio but one of the older/larger ones may be better for something you want to listen to. My DX440 works well as both but it has bass/treble controls and a 4" speaker.

The old GE am/fm super radios or and old boombox might work better. The GE had a woofer and a tweeter, Base/treble controls. For a camp radio these are hard to beat. Good am dx'er and music instead of a tin can.

If you are an iPod person this is a good option. I use this when I go camping, at the park, and anywhere else I can party outdoors. I have found a full charge will play for a weekend camping trip without running out of juice. It plays pretty loud. It also has a switch to charge your iPod if it is running out of power. I found mine at Sam's Club for $100.

I'm looking at this for mountain use, thats why I thought a good twin ferrite antennae would be a good idea. I know reception can be sketchy, but I thought maybe there is a good radio that can perform miracles. Maybe not? I have no clue, I usually shun radios and music when camping, but out in the middle of nowhere I would like a little company when I'm alone. Im willing to extend the antennae, or other stuff to get some reception.
