Hey there; glad to be (re)joining this group. By day, I'm the creative director of NRA America's First Freedom ("Why is a gun that works 80% of the time called 'smart?'") and other NRA publications.

On my own time, I like to drill paper and race cars with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Turns out a large number of us racers are also shooters; a growing subset of us shoot steel on Wednesday evenings in Pueblo.

I won my first AR at a Friends of NRA dinner ... About five minutes after my 19-year-old son had emailed me a link to one he wanted ("I have some raffle tickets; just hang on a second").

There are some awesome shooters out here; I thoroughly enjoy competing with them, and learning from them. I hope to see you at the range; say "hello" when you see me.

Thanks!

Clay

Welcome from another Colorado Springs member! I hope your house isn't near that fire that just broke out in Waldo Canyon! http://www.gazette.com/articles/blaze-140753-fire-side.html

Welcome Clay!

Actually I think I may have met you back in late sept '01 when I interviewed at AM (either there ended up not being a job because of reaction to 9/11 or it was just a courtesy interview, I don't remember for sure ... I did a lot of interviews back then as the wife and I were scouting the city to relocate). I think you also talked to my wife a couple months ago. We're both Graphic Designers, I work for MacVan Map Co and she's a freelancer (she used to work for SHS in Wichita on the national Pizza Hut account).

Lemme know if you need another gun toting graphic designer ;)

Welcome, from another scca member (although I autocross with the BMW for now)

What do you race?

Hi, all. Thanks for the warm welcome!

To answer your questions:

Badger, I'm five blocks from the evac zone. I have a friend from Cedar Heights staying with me until they let him back in. We've been watching the fight from 21st and Lower Gold Camp; it looks like Mordor in Williams Canyon. Are you evac'd?

Hammer, I autocross a 1998 BMW M Roadster, and I race a Mazda RX7 on the track. I'm also a certified instructor with the BMW Club. It's guaranteed we know a bunch of the same people. Jobusch? Kohn? Hammack? Feldpusch?

Mike, I remember you! We shrunk quite a bit after 9/11; 'twas dark days for ad agencies, like everyone else. Tell your wife "hello!"

BTW, we were shooting Saturday morning up by Rainbow Falls. When we left, there was a slight smudge in the sky east of Woodland Park; when we turned east on 24, it was a pronounced column of smoke; when we reached the Waldo Canyon trailhead, it was full of EVs, and the smoke was roiling above us. That evening, we evac'd one of our shooting party. By Saturday night, it looked like Mt. St. Helen's above Colorado Springs.

If anyone on this forum is fighting the fire or supporting the effort, we can't thank you enough.

Small world. I was out there with most of the above on Saturday (it was only 104, you missed out!). I have helped instruct the last two years after moving out here, green e36 M3 (#49). Coming out to any of the events this year, maybe next month in Fountain?

Hi, Hammer,

I might! I like the BMW club events, but my schedule is full of SCCA this summer. I'm chairing the SCCA Colorado National Tour event at PPIR July 13-15; and I also have a couple of club member/evacuees staying with me, so my weekends are getting awfully precious.

Plus, whatever time is left over is getting spent on the range. :)

If I sign up for BMW event, I'll look for you. BTW, do you know Andy Peavy?

Doesn't ring a bell, but I'd probably recognize his car (still trying to put names to all the faces).

Hoping I can make it out to one of the tours down at PPIR someday! Looks like tons of fun. Will probably wait until my 2002 is ready though (my m3 would be in SM because of some bushings and the x-brace)

Andy is a pistol competitor, and a good one. He's also a longtime BMW club instructor.

Bring out the M3; all cars are fun from the inside, even when overclassed. :)

Hi Clay,

What a surprise! I'm new to this group and planning an AR purchase soon.

The news from the Springs is shocking, I'm happy to hear you're ok.

I miss seeing you at the track, our paths haven't crossed in quite a while. I'm still racing the M3, but mostly with the NASA group. In fact I'll be racing in Pueblo next weekend; first time on the new surface. Excited!

Take care and be safe,
Doug Y.

Hi, Doug! Good to see you! Looooong time, no stick-my-nose-inside-your-fender-in-a-corner. Let's collect Peavy and go punish some paper or steel soon ...
