View Full Version : Question for those with an Instructor Belt
Going for the original, thinking 5-stitch vs 3-stitch and not interested in the CSM. Good call for typical (casual) IWB use with ~30 oz carry? Or would the 3 be a bit more flexible & comfortable yet adequate? Any input from those that have tried them? Thanks.

I've tried all 3 of them. I think it depends on your body type and how thick the gun is. For IWB and myself, I think the 3 Stitch would be best, as it is a little bit more flexible and able to get back to following your body after going over the gun rather than sicking straight out from the gun and leaving a big gap between you and the belt.
That being said I decided to stick with leather, but in the form of the kydex reinforced 5.11 belts. I had all the instructor types and just didn't like any of them. For OWB belt holster the instructor type is much better than leather but I normally use a CR Speed setup for range use at matches and I also have a Viking Tactical Brokos belt and Cobra inner for carbine classes and training.

I've got one of the thick, heavy Galco instructor belts but I don't know if it's 3 or 5 stitch. It's far more than what is needed for IWB carry but works well for OWB carry.
I also bought one of the cheap instructor-type belts from Cabela's because they're Made in the USA and are only $15. It actually works very well for IWB and is adequate, though not quite as good as the Galco, for OWB of a Glock and one spare mag. The Cabela's belt is thin but it has a good buckle. They tend to run long. I ordered a 36" belt and it would fit me even if my waist was 42" I think.
If I had to choose one belt I'd go with the lighter Cabela's belt because it works for carry and it's also thin and light enough for casual wear without a gun (I wear it at work...can't carry on the job).

I have the 5 stitch and it has worked well for me for about 7 years.
