i thought it would be a good idea for those of us looking for public areas to shoot past 200 yards to start making a list with details. i got some info from a member on some out in pawnee but lost it in the crash so hopefully it is reposted. if anyone knows of some places please post as many details as possible.

additionally, id like to get out and do some shooting with some semi novice shooters (since i consider myself novice) so if anyone wants to go sometime let me know through pm. all my friends don't have guns or ammo so they mooch mine and its getting old (and expensive)

For people in the Springs/Pueblo area who know a member of Frontier Sportsman, both of their ranges (falcon and fountain) go out to 300 yards at the moment. Not public land except on sight-in days, but lots of members are on here.

Here's what the spot looks like that I've been going to to reach the 1400 yards and inside of that...

Will do... no problem!

Just use the picture as a good reference as well... the place is really clean, and if i go back there and see trash... I'll be pissed [Mad]

Not aiming it at you Tmckay.. but for some of the newbies trolling and looking for a spot themselves [Muaha]

What is beyond that picture? I have a spot that looks like that, but I am nervous about shooting a rifle on it without a berm.

looks like a whole lot of nothing. youd have to have a pretty high powered rifle to make it beyond that, but i get your point.

Well, in my situation, the total distance would be something like 1.5 miles. So if you are shooting 400 yards, you'd still have another 1 mile before the next road. If you scoot back all the way and are trying to shoot a full mile, then you have .5 mile till the next road. Really I'm mostly worried about how far a ricochet will travel.

There are a lot of back stops at least 10 to 20 feet high that are ranged differently in parts of that area. don't let the flatness fool anyone. It was full blown bright out (sun right over my head) and it is deceiving in this picture seeing it is only flat.. I'm shooting at a slight decline.

In the picture I am showing the road I use to drive out with and then I'll walk the steel targets 200 yards in land. A GPS and a range finder helps out here greatly [Beer]

How long does it usually take you to get there? Like an hour and a half from Denver?

For me...

Off I225 and Alameda to that spot... I would say an hour and 45 minutes with traffic.... well, from my spot to Pawnee is an hour and 30 minutes or so, but it takes another 10 to 20 minute on gravel road to the actual spot.

It's weird though, coming home seems to be much quicker though[Coffee]

Great Guns (http://www.greatgunssporting.com/) (near Pawnee, but a private range) has a pretty nice 300yard range. Super nice folks running the place too.

yeah... but $20 for 2 hours, and then $5 per hour after that.... ouch...

I wonder if they'd let you shoot at steel targets at the 300 yard mark....?

Yeah, on a one-visit-at-a-time basis, it's a bit pricey. For us northern guys though, the $75 initiation fee & $15/month works out to be a decent deal if you head out there often enough.

Personally, I hate indoor ranges, and Pawnee seems to draw a lot of morons. I see the $20 entry fee as a filter to keep out the jackasses and idiots.

Pawnee does attract idiots but there are a million places you can go
