From fox:
The Supreme Court has struck down most of the controversial Arizona immigration law, but upheld a key provision.
The provision that was upheld requires state and local police officers, during routine stops, to check the immigration status of anyone they suspect could be in the country illegally.
Other provisions, though, were struck down.
The federal government claimed the law encroached on its authority to enforce immigration law.

I'm surprised they upheld that part, frankly. I didn't expect any of it to be upheld. Not that I don't agree with the AZ law...I do. I just don't have a lot of faith in the SCOTUS.

I hope the SCOTUS has kept its pimp hand strong to smack down Obamacare.
Just imagine what would happen if Obama gets to elect any more justices. 3rd arty voters need to take notice

hopefully it was a prelude to the "striking down" use the pimp hand today

I see the Feds and immigration law to be kinda like CSP and the "State Law: Keep right except to pass." Sure they have the authority to enforce it, but they don't actually enforce it. [Bang] When you don't do your job you can't get mad when someone else decides to do it for you.

Lucky the one part stuck. That could be the best part since it basically l;eaves it up to officer discretion to decide.

Wow, I can't believe how racist you all are! Supporting AZ's fascist immigration law... Shame on all of you!

So you hand it over to the openly liberal/socialist?
I hope the SCOTUS has kept its pimp hand strong to smack down Obamacare.
maybe this is a slight teaser to them. Obama thinks he got a little "win" here...I would call it a draw. then, once the healthcare law comes hopefully it is the ultimate pimp slap![Tooth]

It's calibrated within normal standards. Was hoping for sarcasm but the usual smiley was missing. [Beer]

Yes, sarcasm. I hoped the ridiculousness of my statement was enough to convey the sarcasm.

I believe most of it will be wiped out. I don't think the entire law will be wiped off the books, but with the large number of states, citizens, etc that are against it, I can only assume the majority of the SCOTUS will also be against it.

So how will a LE Officer determine somebody's legal status again?

So how will a LE Officer determine somebody's legal status again?
As was explained to me by a good friend of mine who is a LEO here in Phoenix:
There is a certain sequence of questioning that LEO must follow in trying to determine legal status of a subject.
1. Driver License
2. State Issued ID Card
3. Passport
4. Green Card
5. Work Visa
6. Student Visa
If none of these can be produced, then and only then, will the subject be detained for illegal entry in the US.

I thought that the DL was not a proof of citizenship. If this is the case, then I am good with this.

I was under the impression there are certain state DL's that will not work as proof of ID. Utah for example, when I moved here Colorado did not accept Utah's DL because they did not require proof of citizenship, instead I had to provide a BC to CO DMV.
Oh well, not trying to get into a pissing match about what is proof and what isn't

No pissing match, just checking were we stand. And yes, you are right, I think the last time I renewed my DL here I had to prove my citizenship.
