I have a bonus coming from work and I am looking at full size 9mm handguns. I own and carry a Glock 19 that is getting break in this weather from my LCP. I enjoy and feel that I shoot the 19 well. I'm just curious what other shooters see as the 9mm handgun of choice. I'm considering Glock 17, 34, Sig 226, Beretta 92FS and S&W M&P.

I love the Berettas. They are just tight solid shooting guns. If you have a big budget a Sig 228 is my next favorite.

I have one for sale that I'd be willing to let you shoot.

Berettas have a lot of haters and I don't understand why.

Sure they aren't a Glock, M&P, or any other pokymer striker gun but if you're looking for a solid DA/SA they are my favorite.

A well maintained Beretta won't break on you either.

One little known that I like a lot in DA/SA is the Walther P99. Have always loved that gun. Interesting design too.

H&K USP. Solid Gun with that you can change trigger/control configurations depending on your individual needs

The polymer pistols (glock and M&P) are not SA/DA guns (nothing wrong with, but your title was misleading or innaccurate) they are striker fired pistols. I owned a Berreta 92FS, it was a good gun. Kind of heavy, but otherwise a good gun. I sold it because I shot my Glock 19 better. I kind of regret it, but oh well. I've a buddy's H&K USP in 40 S&W. It was a sweet gun. I think H&K's are the best $500 guns that cost close to a $1000. It always bugs me that H&K doesn't cater to civillian shooters, but that is side tracking. In all seriousness, they make great guns. I've never shot a sig. Tons of people rave about them. Some day, I'll see what they are talking about. I've heard a lot of great things about the Walther PPS and PPQ. Probably the one I'll think about next.

You might consider the beretta px4 storm. It shoots really well

True DA/SA would be the SIG or H&K. I have an early P99 that is one fine smooth shooter same for the Sigs & H&K's. Glocks, S&W M&P. It really comes down to what fits your hand and feels the best overall for you.

I have a beretta m9 and love it. I shoot it much better than my g19. Next on the list is a sig p226!

I think of DA/SA being guns like the CZ 75. Which I'm pretty fond of.

1. Beretta 92fs
2. Cz 75 B

The beretta is the gun I've shot most accurately most consistently. I would never want to cc it though.

One of my favorite 9s was the HK P30. Freaking loved that one!

But, like a dillhole, I sold it.

I really like the M&P's, the Berettas shoot very well but I'm still a hater, maybe just because I think any autoloader that big should be a 45:-) If you haven't shot an M&P maybe give one a test run if you can.
Good luck with your decision!

HK P30 and P30L are great guns.

P30L is identical in size to a glock 17
P30 has the length of a glock 19, but the frame is identical to the P30L/G17 size.

They don't yet make their current generation 9mm in a compact or subcompact.

i depends on what you want to do with it. if you already have a 19 and like it, i would recommend staying with glock. 17s are nice but too similar in performance than the 19. the 34 is an awesome pistol, but the king of the 9mm is the 17L. if you havent heard about them, it is a 6" glock., it uses a 17 frame and a long slide"L" to accommodate the longer barel.
BTW glock is a DA pistol. initial pull takes it from half cock to full and second stage releases the striker.

You can't go wrong with an Hk. If you need a gun that goes bang every time without worry, you need not look any further. Everyone bitches aobut the price of them, but fail to realize that they work every time and have more safety features than pretty much any other handgun on the market. You simply get what you pay for.

You have a fair amount of choices when it comes to Polymer framed pistols.

And then you have Heckler & Koch.

CZ 75 is an awesome gun, the CZ P07 Duty isn't bad either and they can be had for fairly cheap, DA/SA with decocker. I've always shot CZs more accurately than any other polymer.

If it doesn't necessarily need to be DA/SA I'd look at the new Walther PPQ, it gets amazing reviews from every single person that's ever fired one. Grip is incredibly comfortable, much like the P30, but much cheaper, with one of the best stock triggers available.

I do love my XDm too, 19+1 is awesome, but it also isn't DA/SA

Sig P226. I currently carry the P228 (same as P229 smaller than P226) never an issue with the P226 I owned, or the P228. Heavier than the polymer guns though. Always goes bang and shoots straight.

get a 17/34. That way u can use the mags in your 19 for the extra capacity. Plus the trigger will be the same.

Only issue with the cz is that once u go there, you'll end up with a shit eating grin on your face!!!

Second the XDm.
The only pistol I carry.
Like it so much I got the exact same one for the wife (yes, I do love my wife!).
If I could only have one handgun that would be the one.

Appreciating AMBI capability, the HK-P30 has been a perfect SA/DA shooter. I'd consider the Walther PPQ - though I prefer the hammer and decocker on the P30 (PPQ is striker fired). I prefer the euro mag release, too but most US folks prefer the pushbutton on other pistols. And S&W M&P shoots well, too. Consider the CZ, too. I don't know what you mean by 'TOP 9mm' so my thoughts are only based on shooting experience. I am NOT comfortable with shooting a Glock. My hands are med-large gloves but shorter fingers so they don't wrap a Glock as they should.

IF H&K have good customer support AND reasonably priced magazines, it would be a top contender. However when mags run $10 more per than most others, it's off the list. which sucks as the USP is a great gun.

I still say the P99 and since i added a M&P9c. The full size if it performs as well as the C would be a worth while investment.

Finding what works best is really about finding what doesn't work as well and eliminating the possibilities. Ultimately, time will tell. Just because you're into 1 type of gun at the moment doesn't mean thats what you'll like down the road. I say find what works best for you individually, stick with it and master it! Beware the man with 1 gun..

As far as polymer framed guns I have to give honorable mention to the HK USP series (my old standard) and the SIG SP2022 - a very underrated and excellent pistol.

Standing modified isosceles two handed grip. SIG's have superb triggers.

Easily doable. Watch the YouTube video they provide a couple times and it's a piece of cake. Just go slow. I believe this model is not intended to need a gunsmith. Took me about 30 minutes and I'm slow as hell......and it's really that good.

If you shot those groups unsupported then you sir, are a hell of a shooter. I'm pretty fair, and I can do that with some pistols out to 10 yards. But 15? It would never be planned, and I would just have to cut the best shots out of a given target and present them as my smallest groups.

I've heard you're a pistol marksman yourself from credible forum sources :-)

9-10 yds is my normal pistol shooting distance too and I don't shoot 15 yds all too often. Always been a believer in marksmanship anyway..

here's another unsupported 10 yd 4-shot group I did earlier this summer with a P226 9mm:

http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx256/SRG720/P1020336.jpg

All of these groups were shot with stock unmodified factory guns using factory loaded ammo.

SIG pistols in general possess superb intrinsic mechanical accuracy and are easy to shoot accurately provided THE SHOOTER does his part. Never been able to do this with a striker fired pistol[Coffee]

We recently hired a new guy for the range counter who used to work at Bluecore. In your self pic, you're wearing a Bluecore shirt. I pulled up your pic at work yesterday and asked him if he recognized you- he did not, but other co-workers said they thought you came in to shoot pretty regularly.

What do you use for your bullseye shooting sneakerd?

08-25-2012, 23:24
I'm not really that organized. I try to cycle thru my "combat" handguns, to make sure they are all worn in so to speak. Since I work at FL, I am able to shoot without paying any range fees, and can shoot whenever I want before or after work. Typically I will put 100 to 200 rnds thru a pistol (whatever I choose), 2-3 times a week. Most of my shooting is done between 7.5 and 10 yards, my only goal is to completely shoot out the 10-ring, from line to line. I prefer B34 targets but am not overly picky. I can do that consistently and there is always an open invitation to any forum member to join me. I'm pretty easy to find!! [Beer]
