No it's not what you're thinking. I imagine that local LE agencies are going to have their hands full with calls about fireworks next week, but I was wondering, since we're going to have a little BBQ at my mom's house (propane grill, no worries!) on the 4th, about the laws concerning others shooting off fireworks. My mom lives in a neighborhood in Evergreen that is pretty flat, wooded, and sort of densely populated. Every year kids in our neighborhood shoot off fireworks regardless of how dry it is. If we can't get a rapid response from Jeffco Sheriff, is there anything within our civil duties and rights that we can do if we do witness people violating the fire ban by shooting off fireworks? I understand the law states you can make a civilian arrest if you are a direct witness to a crime, but I'm not sure about the severity or if it has to be a felony or it can be a lesser charge. I'm just wondering if we witness someone shooting off fireworks in our neighborhood if we are able to somehow detain them while waiting for JCSO, or if we should just report them to the dispatcher and hope that they catch the bastards.

Just curious, because we said we're gonna go posse style on anyone who starts a fire due to their stupidity or negligence and round 'em up! <Kidding, but seriously, I really would like to be very proactive this year in helping to prevent another fire breaking out. [Beer]

"just report them to the dispatcher and hope that they catch the bastards." And make sure the peeps dont know the call came from you, or your Mom / her home may end up paying the price.

Get plenty of water in jugs / buckets. Show up to their house. Douse all fireworks in water. Leave. Problem solved.

If you start shooting close to them and enough to scare them you can collect their fireworks for next year!

I suspect the sheriffs office will show up if you go over and start a confrontation.

If you notice them doing anything really stupid, just video tape them for further evidence? That'd sure help with any insurance claims for any damage.

what makes you think I'm not serious?

super-soaker and a cell phone "hey, I'm on the phone with the fire dept dispatch, do you want me to douse your fireworks with this, or should we wait for them to show up with the Sheriff?"

Excellent, but maybe after successful elk season to celebrate the hunt.

Video the perps but after shooting them with a bb or pellet gun

"Sheriff Orders Professional Fire Works Displays Prohibited
June 27th, 2012

Due to the current extremely dry conditions and high fire danger, Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver in conjunction with the Executive Board of the Douglas County Fire Chiefs Association has decided it would be contrary to the safety and welfare of the citizens of Douglas County to approve any public fireworks displays for the 4th of July. Sheriff Weaver and the Douglas County Fire Chiefs appreciate the tradition of fireworks displays in respect to celebrating the birthday of our nation and have put much consideration into the decision to make this sacrifice.

In addition, under the current stage 2 fire restrictions in place in Douglas County the use and sale of personal fireworks is also prohibited."

Cold Camps and no fireworks this country is going to hell in a hand basket. I bet Kenya even has fireworks
