Serious question though Luigi: Is it a clean cut in the sign, like it was done with scissors? Or is it a tear?
Is it possible that a wind gust just tore it off? It would seem to me that, if it was in fact vandalism, someone would have just come and ripped it right off the wood, not cut it down. That's why it seems weird that the top part of the sign is still attached.

I have absolutely no issue with anyone's choice of religion or anything like that. The issue seems to me to be no more important than someone who has their political party/candidate sign stolen from their front yard. That happens all of the time yet garners no attention unless it becomes an "epidemic".

However I feel he is looking for attention, hence the "hate crime, catch the mutherfucker, I can protect my house (which he failed to do), uptight christians did it," contacting the news about it being a "hate crime", wearing a silly mask while being interviewed, etc...
Luigi, or anyone else can worship a garbage disposal for all I care. What irks me about this whole thing is the way about which he's done it. It's almost funny.

My only issue is the whole "hate crime" thing, there is no special class of crime (or shouldn't be) the crime is the crime, motivational factors should only come into play when trying to prove said individual committed said crime. So it is trespassing and petty theft, hate crime legislation is BS IMO.

You should first and foremost complain that the Mountain View Police Department does nothing but hang out at Arbys catching speeders on Sheridan. Perhaps if they actually patrolled the area the crime rate in Mountain View would actually justify the amount of police personnel and equipment they have at their disposal for nothing more than revenue generation. I know as little about what really happened as everyone else in here. That being said, I firmly believe that this was most likely a case of some typical yuppy seeing the sign and thinking that it was a reference to Obama, then getting all butthurt offended and tearing down the sign. I believe you are really overthinking the incident when you say that it was a premeditated hate crime intended as an affront to your spiritual/religious/whatever beliefs.

I can understand posting it on here I guess but that is as far as I would go personally, I had a really cool gun sign stolen from me and I just wrote it off as I should have had it protected better. I personally would not have wasted the time of Law enforcement with such a petty little thing, especially when they could be out doing something important, and if I did I would have went in on my time, if you did then forget I said anything. As far as you looking for attention like a few people have said I do not know, it does look that way but who knows. I mean what really makes you think it out to be a hate crime? Don't get me wrong it was wrong for someone to steal your property, but don't you think you are taking it to far? Now I am not trying to be a jerk I just am trying to make a point I guess. If the guy and his wife want to worship satan, thats fine, it's none of my business. When he posts a sign to vote for satan, thats making a political statement, and objecting to a political statement doesn't qualify as a hate crime, IMO. It would be the same as saying Vote for Jesus, or Vote for Mohammed, etc. To me, this smells of "Look at Me!" You got the attention you wished, and you didnt like the outcome. In a perfect world, no one would step on each other's toes, but this isn't, and when you rub something as volatile as that, in someone's face, you're asking for trouble. It would be the same as a KKK member marching around in his yard... in Compton, lol. Your rights end where someone else's begins, and making a political statement is inviting someone to make their own, at your dispense. If you dont like the attention, don't seek it. Simple enough. You already know the religion is frowned upon in a country built on, and based on christian faith. You dont see me moving to Saudi Arabia and bible beating there, right?

Like others have said, I may not agree with his religion, but I'd stand beside him to defend his right to worship as he chooses.
One thing that bugs me, is when people make it a point to belittle or degrade someone else's religion. I'm not a Buddist or a Muslim, but I wouldn't put a bumper sticker on my car mocking Buddha or Mohammed. When people put stickers up that mock another's symbol, (i.e., the Darwin fish eating a Jesus fish), I don't think it's a person simply expressing their beliefs, I see it as a small-minded, mean-spirited attack on someone else's beliefs - Two different things. I don't understand why someone would get off by publicly ridiculing another's religious choices, whatever they are.
I'm not sure if the "Christmas tree that has been painted black" is an example of this or not. I hope not.
Did anyone else not initially click on this thread because they thought this was the thread about Hoser being on the news earlier this year? I can't find the thread at the moment, but I thought it had a similar title.

I can't find the thread at the moment, but I thought it had a similar title.I made the news not to long ago when we had one of the worst snow storms we have ever had. I was driving a hopped up Firebird Formula and the news lady could not believe it, so she asked me if she could interview me. I thought it was pretty funny and so did a lot of my friends, I had people I did not even know stop and talk to me when they spotted the car.

The very concept of a Hate Crime is stupid. Thank you Luigi for making an effort to point out how dumb hate crimes are.
Ding Ding Ding THANK YOU! [Beer]
Yes, it is stupid!
BUT, if this protection is offered to other minorities (which it should NOT), I am entitled to the same stupid protection.
Or am I lesser than a Jew, a Muslim, a Black calling hate crime when her kid gets shot by a "White Hispanic" or an Hispanic calling being asked to wear a seat belt like everybody else "racial profiling"???
How is this different from hanging a noose or spraypanting anti semitic slogans?
Still no phisical confrontation but I would go under he radar because I am "unsightly" and FuckHead Al Sharpton is not on my side.
I thought I made it pretty clear in the interview: other religions are protected, mine is no less.
Thanks to those who understand, I am trying to make a point here!

If this were a koran that was tossed out of a car the owner had CAIR would be there is [20 min] or less:) decrying the intolerance the White Christian neighbors had, towards this poor unfortunate muslim.
Nope you're not out of line, unfortunately just as you mentioned in one of those "protected" religious sects.

Vandalism is a misdemeanor, as is trespassing. Was there a dollar figure given for the sign? I will kick in $10 for replacement cost.

I appreciate this, but it is a $25 deal, no worries![Beer]
Replacement already on its way (and game camera purchased, I just have to figure out how to conceal it without blocking the lens, infrared flash and movement sensor-any suggestion?).
However, if somebody wants to make a campaign like for the school bus monitor, raise a few hundred thousand dollars and send me on early retirement, it would be greatly appreciated...[Tooth]

Now I am one of those hard right Christians everyone always talk about. I might not agree with your views and theology, but that's the great thing about America. However, I know my faith and understand the saying, "hate the sin, love the sinner". I actually completely agree with your moves on resolving this one Luigi. ANY crime is bad.
You already know the religion is frowned upon in a country built on, and based on christian faith.
I have to address this... Contrary to popular belief, Jefferson did NOT support Christianity, he was a very outspoken agnostic, and didn't support one religion over another- He even went as far as saying something to the effect of "The 'in God we trust' is not talking about one god in particular but any god you freely choose to believe in."
Luigi, never met you, but I hope to change that someday, stick to your guns buddy! I support anyone's freedom to practice whatever religion they want... I don't care if it's Satanism, Norse Paganism, Jewish, or Jedi, this is the land of freedom and we can't pick which freedom gets special treatment or not based on our agreement with it or lack thereof. Let's just imagine for two seconds if this was a "Vote Mohammad" sign, or maybe a "Vote Krishna" sign, would it be any different? I don't see how it would be. That's the beauty of living here. As far as "looking for attention" this hypocracy needs to be brought to light, hate crimes are silly and this whole thing is pointing that out. And if it's a religion you don't agree with, tough. I don't agree with Islam, but it's not my place to vandalize mosques and Muslim's homes...

That hack Barton puts a pretty big question mark into the concept of universal reality. Instead of assembling the facts to form an opinion, he forms his facts to support his opinion.
I especially question his treatment (or lack thereof) of Jefferson's rewriting of the King James Bible, wherein Jefferson excised the theology from the text, and Barton's entire interpretation of Jefferson's role in the Aiken Bible affair... best to put this book in the 'historical fiction' section. (I happen to also support this review of Barton and his book:

Well said. That's what it really boils down to. It's not the content of what was on the property, it's not the underlying message or any of that, it's that someone trespassed onto Luigi's property and did something destructive to his property. Doesn't matter if it was a flag, a poster, a sign, or a wooden sculpture, vandalism/destruction of property is still illegal and wrong.
Nationwide? Wow.

This is going to be fun.
i don't think anyone would think its not a right to defend your property and religion. we should all agree on that. for me, personally, i just don't think its worth the hassle. ive had my illinois alumni stickers taken off my car in my driveway once or twice, probably some knucklehead that went to iowa or ohio state or something and is jealous, but i certainly didn't report it. similarly, if i had a jesus fish on my car and that got yanked, i wouldn't report that either, but certainly everyone has differing levels of what bothers them and to what degree. i usually just chalk it up to idiots and generally feel sorry for them and their lame behavior and move on.

I would think that you would be pretty happy that some person stole your sign. I mean, isn't that one of the teachings of satan? To perform acts of evil upon others? I'm just going from the general perception of what worshiping satan means to those that chose to do so. I may be wrong so perhaps you can clarify and educate us all as to what the end purpose of satan worship is.
Than again, all of this attention just shows what is wrong with America these days. The trivial stuff gets all the attention and what really matters gets ignored so that the political ruling class can continue to steamroll us under and continue to take away our freedoms because we don't really pay attention to what is truly important.
I guess I am as guilty as anyone but I this issue to me is pure entertainment and of no real value to anyone.

Man this got out of hand really fast WOW, I cannot believe what makes the news anymore. What is so hard to believe about some dumb kids wanting the sign? If it was a "hate crime" I would think some of his other "religious items" would have been messed with. Am I the only one that remembers being a kid?
As do I.
Luigi, take this to heart - calling a very neatly cut banner that had the word satan on it is not a hate crime, my friend.
My only issue is the whole "hate crime" thing, there is no special class of crime (or shouldn't be) the crime is the crime, motivational factors should only come into play when trying to prove said individual committed said crime. So it is trespassing and petty theft, hate crime legislation is BS IMO.
As far is this making the news I find it pretty ridiculous, I mean come on really? I personally would not have wasted the time of Law enforcement with such a petty little thing, especially when they could be out doing something important, and if I did I would have went in on my time, if you did then forget I said anything. As far as you looking for attention like a few people have said I do not know, it does look that way but who knows. I mean what really makes you think it out to be a hate crime? Don't get me wrong it was wrong for someone to steal your property, but don't you think you are taking it to far? Now I am not trying to be a jerk I just am trying to make a point I guess. It sucks that you had your property stolen but it happens. Report it and move on just like everyone else does.
The very concept of a Hate Crime is stupid. Thank you Luigi for making an effort to point out how dumb hate crimes are.

Satanism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Satan worship)
For other uses, see Satanism (disambiguation).
The downward-pointing pentagram is often used to represent Satanism.
Satanism is a group of religions composed of a diverse number of ideological and philosophical beliefs and social phenomena. Their shared features include symbolic association with, admiration for the character of, and even veneration of Satan or similar rebellious, promethean, and liberating figures.
Satan, also called Lucifer by many Christians, appears in the Books of Chronicles provoking David to take a census of Israel. In the Book of Job he is called הַשָּׂטָ֤ן Ha-Satan, meaning ‘the opposer’[1], and acted as the prosecutor in God’s court. A character named Satan was described as the tempter of Jesus in many of the Gospels of early Christians.
Christianity and Islam typically regard Satan as the adversary or enemy, but extensive popular redactions and recompositions of biblical tales have inserted his presence and influence into every aspect of adversarial role back to the Creation and Fall. By Christians and Muslims especially, the figure of Satan was treated variously as a rebellious or jealous competitor to human beings, to Jesus, and characterized as a fallen angel or demon ruling the penitential Underworld, chained in a deep pit, wandering the planet vying for souls or providing the impetus for all worldly travesty.
Satan in Paradise Lost, as illustrated by Gustave Doré
Particularly after the European Enlightenment, some works, such as Paradise Lost, were taken up by Romantics and described as presenting the biblical Satan as an allegory representing a crisis of faith, individualism, free will, wisdom and enlightenment. Those works actually featuring Satan as a heroic character are fewer in number, but do exist; George Bernard Shaw, and Mark Twain (Letters from the Earth) included such characterizations in their works long before religious Satanists took up the pen. From then on, Satan and Satanism started to gain a new meaning outside of Christianity.[2]
Although the public practice of Satanism began in 1966 with the founding of the Church of Satan, some historical precedents exist: a group called the Ophite Cultus Satanas was founded in Ohio by Herbert Arthur Sloane in 1948. Inspired by Gnosticism and Gerald Gardner's Wicca, the coven venerated Satan as both a horned god and ophite messiah.
Inverted cross, often seen as a symbol of Satanism.
A particular antique Norwegian grimoire,[3] in contrast to other Christian-oriented magical texts which describe Satan as an inferior spirit to be enslaved, contains a spell wherein the magician is instructed to renounce God and the Holy Spirit, and “completely swear to Lucifer, ruler of the Dark Abyss”. The text itself claims to be originally from a manuscript in Wittenberg, similar to the many occult chapbooks pseudonymously ascribed to Doctor Faustus.
There was also a late 17th century French moral panic against alleged Satanism during the Poison Affair (1675–1682), which occurred during the reign of Louis XIV and dealt with accusations of widespread poisonings, infanticide and forgery, presided over by an alleged Satanic social network, which had no actual substance but reflected the aforementioned pre-Enlightenment popular religious anxieties.[4]
Satanist groups that appeared after the 1960s are widely diverse, but two major trends are Theistic Satanism and Atheistic Satanism. Theistic Satanists venerate Satan as a supernatural deity. In contrast, Atheistic Satanists[5] consider themselves atheists, agnostics, or apatheists and regard Satan as merely symbolic of certain human traits. This categorization of Satanism (which could be categorized in other ways, for example "Traditional" versus "Modern"), is not necessarily adopted by Satanists themselves, who usually would not specify which type of Satanism they adhere to. Some Satanists believe in a god in the sense of a Prime Mover but, like Atheistic Satanists, do not worship it, due to the deist belief that a god plays no part in mortal lives.
Despite heavy criticism from other religious groups, there are signs that Satanistic beliefs have become more socially tolerated. Satanism is now allowed in the Royal Navy of the British Armed Forces, despite much opposition from Christians,[6][7][8] and, in 2005, the Supreme Court of the United States debated over protecting the religious rights of prison inmates after a lawsuit challenging the issue was filed to them.[9][10]
Contemporary Satanism is mainly an American phenomenon, the ideas spreading with the effects of globalization and the Internet.[2] The Internet promotes awareness of other Satanists, and is also the main battleground for the definitions of Satanism today.[2] Satanism started to reach Eastern Europe in the 1990s, in time with the fall of the Soviet Union, and most noticeably in Poland and Lithuania, Roman Catholic countries.[11][12]
I bet the person that took the sign is really shitting themselves now hahaI doubt it most likely he gave them a good laugh. I bet when they watched the news it was just a bonus on top of taking the sign. He might have even played right in to their hand.

Luigi, why on earth did you refer me to this?
Very self-defeating
Some of the comments on there are pretty funny. I personally like the one from Robert R Fields. I did not see any that were of a threatening manner.

What kind of phone do you have? If it's an android phone, download "Dolphin Browser". Upon first time running the new browser, tell it to emulate desktop settings. You'll no longer get mobile versions of sites when using that browser. Several other browsers have this capability but I'm more familiar with Dolphin.

Luigi, are you talking about the asshat that said this:
Can you imagine what the inside of these people house looks like!? ...and think about their neighbors' property values.... Think I might accidentally set off a meth lab fire in their garage....
That sounds like someone who should be shot if they even try something like that. Wow... lot of ignorant people comment on there.
