View Full Version : distracted driving
Was watching 9 new. They had a live cam in a cop car, looking for fireworks. The officer was watching his computer more than the road. I don't really care, but compared to talking on the phone. Sorta rubs me wrong. I can't legally do that. But hey they get to shoot better guns too.

You would think they could make a "heads up display" for cop cars, like they do for US Air Force fighter pilot cockpits. And armor their cars like Obama's limos too. I saw on the Mexican news, their cops have M-60 machineguns mounted on the back of pickup trucks, like they used to have when we loaded nukes on our planes...
That battery looks like it would willingly smash your brains out in the event of a roll over accident tmleadr.

I don't mind paying for good gear for the police. It is the improper use of the gear that upsets me. Not every one needs HUD. I am sure cops that misuse there gear are the same people that would text and drive.
Not all COPS are good. Most have great intentions and a lot are great. It is the few that ruin it for most.

Wow! Leather Recarro type seats, but missing the entire radio/emergency equipment console. In fact, no controls of any kind inside there makes me think this isn't a police vehicle, but some other entity that uses computers in their daily job. Hence, the car battery on the front passenger floorboard and the scanner/printer on the front seat.
I did see the 9News thing last night and thought it was extremely dumb. Sitting backward in his seat reporting and then interviewing the fire chief sitting in the back seat next to the cameraman while they were in motion, was dumb. At least he didn't try to push the mike into the cops face while he was driving, looking for a sound bite.
9News was my favorite news channel, but with their new news director trying to do new, different and off beat things, like their reporting and interviewing from the cop car, their new intro to the news program, the upcoming news stories side bar and the streaming news on the bottom of the screen, I'm considering changing news channels.

Let's not forget Amelia Earhart! [Love4]
I see this problem all the time- Jeffco deputies cruise around messing with their computers and I can see it becoming a problem. I've never heard of one crashing but if it happens just once you'd think that perhaps they need to implement that unless it's a dire emergency, when you want to pull up your calls or anything else on the computer, pull over. But remember, they do this for a living, so I wouldn't go around telling cops "ticket yourself" when they try to pop you for texting and driving. [Tooth]

I must agree with your 9 news comments. I didn't realize why things seemed to be changing but lately I decided they aren't as good as they used to be. I am thinking of switching to 7 news....

If I remember correctly, Corey recently indicated that she likes guns and shooting. Pretty rare for anyone in the news media industry to at least ADMIT that.

Sorry! It is too nice for a cop car interior. The duty belts would destroy that upholstery.

AC on max keeping the air in my truck and a comfy 68 degrees and my back still is sweating due to the damn seats. That is the biggest complaint about the truck.
If the bed length was the same I would find a white crew cab with power options and cloth seats and swap over my service bed to that. Then I could load the kids up when I needed to. Sadly the extended cab and reg cab come with a 6.1 ft bed and the crew cab comes with a 5.1 ft bed.
