View Full Version : Hate us or not we do a lot more good than you think
So tomorrow is perhaps the best holiday ever! Already I'm seeing it come out of the woodwork in places (especially Facebook)- the America bashing. "Oh great, tomorrow is the 4th, enter the patriotic chest thumping, America is #1 BS..." Well please let the door hit you on the way out, and don't come back! We're still the best nation on earth and we should be proud dammit! So to show how great we are I'll share this with you guys- I got it emailed to me by a good friend of mine while I was overseas, and while digging through some old emails I found it!
At a conference in France where a number of international engineers were participating, one of the French engineers came into the room saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims.
What does he intend to do, bomb them?'
A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed over 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?'
You could have heard a pin drop.

While I'm continually alarmed at the course of this nation, I have given my blood, sweat and tears for it as well. If called upon, I will also give my life.
God Bless The USA!

I participated in the evacuation of civilians from Bosnia in 1992. They were send to Split and traveled on the the AC Clemenceau to Italy.
And tomorrow I am going to celebrate the 4th of July with pride as a US citizen surrounded by my American friends and family.

On just the French part or about "America being GREAT?"

I don't think it was meant as a stab towards the French. You could remove the word "French" and replace it with just about anything, including "liberal (so-called) American".

You do realize that about 90% of things like this passed on as fact are really just jokes, right? I never once said it actually happened, it was more a patriotic joke...

No one should apologize for America without first cleaning his/her own house (speck in the eye kind of thing)!

Then do me a favor, and next time pick an italian or a german engineer...
In 1961 the American Rifleman decided to add a joke to their ad for the Carcano: "Italian rifle in good condition, never used but dropped once"....
my first job I worked in a country club with an old Russian Jew boss. I was about 13 or 14 when he told me that "you can judge how great a country is by how many are trying to get in, verses how many are trying to get out"

While I agree that it is a gross generalization of the French people, much of this stems from the war with Iraq when the French were very angry with us for doing that and that sticks in a lot of folks craws.
Personally, I don't have anything against the French, I could probably throw out some baseless talking points but it's just empty hatred.
I like to consolidate my hatred for one group, liberals, and I don't think the possible or contrived transgressions of the French can hold a candle to them.
So, that's that. Ronin, it's a cool tongue in cheek story that does indeed demonstrate that Americans rock, America is awesome and despite recent court rulings, I believe in the system and I believe we will always prevail.
Then do me a favor, and next time pick an italian or a german engineer...
So it is ok to use Italian or German, just not the French....Check

Go even further back when Bush Sr. wanted to bomb Lybia. The French wouldn't allow us to fly over their airspace. Sure, they love us.

I've heard that a lot over the years, and I think there is some truth to it.

I'm going to out on a limb here and guess that there are assholes in every nationality... [Beer]
we'll try to be less "French bashy" if you attempt to not take things personally...
I can see German, Dutch, Irish or French-Canadian jokes and not be offended... (represents about 7/8ths of my heritage)
I've even been known to laugh at American or Redneck jokes (most would believe I qualify as a redneck)
so "lighten up, Francis"
God Bless America! [Marine]
I owe the French a great deal for my years of happiness. My wife and I practice their famed method of kissing [Flower]
Happy Birthday America!
Be safe.
