View Full Version : Roll Your Own Cigarettes is going to be no more.
Has anyone heard about this? They tacked a rider bill onto a transportation bill that will make rolling your own smokes subject to a draconian manufactures tax.
I know that is a hardship for me since I could use that extra $25 for food gas or just to have and could do better things with it that the government. But there is a war on smokes just like there is on sugar, guns, salt and anything else fun. When is it going to stop? I know there is a bunch of people that smoke but just don't care. I wonder if its because they are able to smoke and chill. Maybe, heads will roll if people are forced to quit though these BS means.
Just wanted to know what you think and if there is anything that can be done to fight this war on well the poor?
calm down son, nanny knows best.
any way to know who put in the amendment?
Will papers and supplies still be available? Just curious if the materials will be illegal or just the act of rolling smokes?

Not sure about who added the rider. But apparently they tried to stuff that turkey will all kinds of bills.

the majority has spoken. Smoking is now undesirable, legislation to persecute smokers doesn't garner a second look.
Might as well quit.

I had a g/f that smoked two packs a day. The doctors had to remove one of her lungs. Now she only smokes half as much...

Good for her, sounds like a sweetheart. Everybody needs a bad habit.

Yes. But instead of renting their machines to roll it in about 20 min. you have to roll them one by one at home and that takes about 3 hours.
Its like charging 25 - 49 dollars to use a progressive reloading press or doing it at home with a single stage press made of plastic.
I'm not going back to $50 -60 cartons. They can get their tax money somewhere else.
They are doing it for taxes which is weird to me, because don't they just deficit spend anyway. They don't even need to collect money. Its not they are on a budget.

Obama is such a hypocrite. How can he sign this bill knowing that its going to effect the poor and only the poor that found a niche to save some money and still live a little.

Maybe its time to invest in your own rolling machine.
Ages ago when I smoked I went through a "roll your own" phase and I had one of these:
http://image0-rubylane.s3.amazonaws.com/shops/drury/14.1L.jpg
It rolled cigarettes every bit as nicely as Camel did (I smoked Camels when I bought them in packs).
I'm sure you could also find a bigger, commercial machine for a decent price.
Honestly before this post I didn't realize that they rented out the machines at smoke shops.
Still sucks ... stupid nanny state.
Its cool because you have full tubes with a filter and non of that fire retardant on it that makes a cigarette go out for no reason. You add the tobacco and the tubes and start the machine. They feed a tube onto a gatling gun looking thing and inject the tobacco and drops it out on the next turn of the machine. It was a sweet deal I have a hand rolling machine that cost $10 but was to easy to break. Maybe, I should wait and check out behind the buildings to see if they don't dump the old machines for scrap. And let whoever wants to use it for free do it.
Don't worry about the paper part of the cigarette, You need them for joints.

If you have smoked for more than 6 months and cannot roll your own by hand Shame on You.
I don't want to. Shouldn't have to. Don't need to. This isn't Russia. This is America and with all of our skills and brains we shouldn't be forced to roll our own smokes. The hard way isn't the better way.
Not as fast but there you go.

aww man. Now these evil gatling gun look-a-likes are sure to be banned!
lifeon2, I smoke pipes and cigars, but do not inhale. Do smokers inhale pipes and cigars?
Wow. I hate, hate, HATE cigarettes & cigarette smoke but this is just bullshit. This government control needs to end. If someone wants to smoke themselves into an early grave... let 'em. Same goes for eating, sky diving, driving w/o seat belts and a list of items into the thousands if not millions. The land of the free? olry?
Thanks jer. Thats the way I feel too. I hate chewing tobacco. But I wouldn't want it banned.

When factory made smokes jumped from $25 a carton to $35 and then to $50 in a few months with no increase in value, (in fact it lost value because of that fire retardant that makes them go out then catches fire when you relight it) I tried rolling my own with a bag of tobacco and rolling papers. It seemed to work alright. But not for me. I like filters.
I'm going to invest in that Top's rolling machine I think. Seems like the pipe tobacco and tubes are going to be around still. Just not a fancy machine to load them together.
A federal judge in Ohio already ruled that a person rolling their on a machine isn't manufacturing and said roll on. I guess its going to take another law suit to the supreme court to get national relief this time.
This overall attack on peoples "bad habits" has to end.
I've already noticed that 7-11 has reduced their double gulp cups from a economical 60 oz to 40 and then 32oz. but still charge the same.
Its only because it doesn't affect them and they think they know whats best for everyone too.
Where do they get off? What kind of person thinks that they know what's best for everyone? [Bang]

OK sorry if I'm confused, but are they now taxing the hell out of tobacco and papers? I used to roll my own at one point and you could buy the whole kit from a tobacco store- tobacco, papers, filters, and the little roller deal (simple two tubes with a strip of rubber between them that rolled perfect cigs every time). I lost the roller so I'd have to get a new one, but now is that going to be out of control expensive? Don't you just love libtards, they say they're for the little guy, yet they always raise taxes on stuff the little guy uses- cigs, liquor, old cars that get crap for gas mileage. Someone needs to point out how freaking stupid dems are for being "against the rich" but taxing the poor to keep them poor.

This makes me want to take up smoking just to spite the guberment.
When will it stop?
I don't smoke. I can't stand the smell of cig. smoke. I have no problem with your right to smoke. The whole "sin" tax thing just pisses me off.
