I like my directv. Dish seems to have programming negotiation issues. And if I give you my account #, we could both save $10/mo for 10 months :D

If you like Football DirecTV.

If you're cheap Dish.

As said in the previous post Dish has a lot of programming negotiation issues. The owner of Dish has a reputation for being a hard lined cheap ass that is hated by most TV networks because he is nearly impossible to deal with. As a result of the owners tactics there have multiple situations where channels have been temporarily removed from the Dish lineup. I believe there is about to be an interruption to a network as we speak for this very reason.

Personally I would have DirecTV if it were not for the fact that my wife is a Comcast employee and gets Comcast services for free.

I have direct, buddy has dish I get alot more channels that he doesn't. Outdoor channels, espn channels etc.
He gets pissed cause I call and tell him so and so is on, and he says I don't get that channel.

Direct vote here.

I have had Direct TV (or what ever it's predecessor was known as) for the past 17 years and the only complaint is that rain CAN knock the broadcast signal out for a minute or two. This may also happen if a bird takes a leak while in the signal path.[Tooth]

If I were to go back to satellite (Im with Comcast now...though hopefully not for long) I would go with Direct TV. Dish dropped AMC and pretty much 3 of the 5 shows I wont miss are on AMC.

Ya the hopper is a joke. The first commercials made it sound like a 6 tuner DVR but it was way over sold.

They all SUCK...but they don't SUCK as bad as Comcast. I now have Directv...Box went out 2 weeks ago...had to wait 3 days for a new one to be shipped to me. (Thankfully I have multiple boxes in the house so it was a mere PITA)

Ive got Dish and have had for about 5 years, had Directv before that. I prefer Dish but I only really watch the Broncos, and when I play fantasy I just watch RedZone on Dish (shows every TD of every game live throughout the day, cool channel) so I dont need sunday ticket.

Dish is cheaper but I prefer the service on DirecTV. I have rarely had DirecTV raise my rates.

directv, I've had them for over 10 years no real trouble to speak of. I have 7 boxes in my house. free upgrade and install to hd and hd dvr when they came out, if you have trouble with a box they fedex you a new one next day you just put the old one in the box and send it back prepaid. I never had any line or dish issuses, but when I moved I left the dish at the old house, and they came to my new house and installed a new dish and installed it all within 2 days of me moving in. price is not bad I have every channel they offer minus the sports packs, 5 hd boxes, 2 hd-dvr boxes and it's like $200.00 a month.

Dish has more HD channels, has better plans and better prices.
Their DVR and rewind and fast forward functions are easier to use then DirecTV. I have the older system,, not the Hopper so I have ne experience with that.

I have Dish and I obviously had DirecTV in the field and couldnt stand swithcing back and forth between the two. Dish is better IMHO.
I have had very little interruptions with Dish and all the damn time in the field,
DirecTV would lose signal and there was no weather or obstructions for south facing etc.

I have dish and have outdoor channel and all 1000 ESPN channels. Your neighbor must be a cheap skate to not have those.

According to AMC web site, Dish is no longer carrying the channels.

Dish for me. Switched from comcast about 4 years ago and have been very happy... except on heavy snow days. Plus directv (along with comcast) made the 15 most Disliked companies list this year.

"The most common complaints for DirectTV are related to billing issues. On the Consumer Affairs forum, thousands of customers complain about how the company changes contract details without notifying customers and therefore, hiking prices without authorization. "

Direct TV is the way to go. I haven't lost signal in the 3 years i have had it. price has always been consistent and I will call and complain and they will give me a discount and free hbo and starz for a while.

Dish has these disruptions in service for certain channels because they are negotiating prices with suppliers. They do this to keep their prices lower than other signal providers. Its the free market. I used to work for Dish/Echostar and still have them as my provider due to cost. With directtv after your initial contract is up you will have to call and complain to get a cheaper service. Also Dish is a Colorado company and was started in Englewood.

put the dish down low on the side of the house, you'll be glad when the snow has filled it up. Most people complain when it's on top of the roof and full.

I've had both dish and direct, currently on direct tv, no issues really with either.

I've had both, and I agree with most of what has been said. If you are primarily driven by price go with Dish. If reliability and level of service is your priority go with DirectTV.

as much as I like directv this morning when I turned the tv on they are fighting with viacom and around 10 or more channels are pulled including spike, tvland, (mtv who cares) and several others.[Rant1]

I've had DirecTV for probably 14 or 15 years. Everyone I know who has had Dish Network has always had issues in one form or another. Both of my kids worked for Dish for a while in the customer service department and can tell you how crappy they treat their customers.

yes, I was upset about comedy central and spike. I watch those two quite a bit. Supposedly it is a scare tactic. I view it as a way to get a discount on my bill[Tooth]
