Sonnen's spinning back fist whiff was a bad mistake

Any mistake Sonnen made was going to be exploited in the worst way possible. Anderson is a different class of fighter altogether and always has been. Cracked ribs prevented him from making this apparent in the first fight, but he corrected that misconception this time around.
Chael was desperate to keep Slilva on his back the whole fight, and he couldn't.

+1. Had it not been for that, He probably would've been in good position for the whole fight. I truly think Silva's weakness is on the ground, out of all his bouts we rarely ever see him on his back. I think Sonnen had a good plan and I would go as far as even saying he would've executed it very well. One mistake and it cost him the entire fight.
You put your back up against the cage and use it to walk up to your feet, more of something you would do when you get take down and locked up though... He was probably thinking sine he had 3 points of contact on the ground he would be safe from kicks and knees to the head, who would of guessed he would take one to the chest! It was an ok fight I'm glad I didn't pay for them overall they were not very good. Just my 2 cents.

A full blown Silva knee to the sternum was not something that Chael had accounted for. Any time you walk up the cage in front of the greatest fighter (and especially striker) of all time you're taking a risk. We've seen plenty of body shots destroy guys in the cage.
With all the trash that Sonnen was talking, I thought we were going to see the first death in the cage. Anyone else hear that the fight was supposed to be in Brazil, but Sonnen had so many death threats that they had to have it here?
I also thought that with all the trash talking, and how big of a deal this fight was, that they wouldn't have called it so early.
I too thought Yves Lavigne was pretty quick to stop it. Watching the replay most of those blows were glancing at best & most were hitting leather & wrists. That being said Sonnen also wasn't moving to better his positing. For the moment leading up to the end of the fight it kind of looked as if Sonnen gave up. Not really what I've come to expect from him. I still would've liked to see the fight go a little longer & reach a more definitive conclusion given the history & the fact that it was a title fight & a rematch. I actually gave round 1 to Sonnen & with his track record of being a tough SOB I would've liked to see the fight go a little longer. On a fight such as this between two experienced fighters you want to err on the side of letting it go too long.

Everything would of had to go perfect for Sonnen to win. Chael knew this and by the 2nd it was evident that he had no cards left to play. I really wanted him to have a good showing but hope and trash talk don't win fights. Silva showed why there's no one out there even close to him right now.
Here you go Danimal. Not exactly a spinning back fist, but similar idea of a non-standard strike.

Maybe I've been out of UFC for too long, but didn't Sonnen look about 20 years older than the last time he fought Silva?

You can't saw that just like before the last 8sec of the first match between these two you couldn't say that Silvia had nothing for Sonnen because we all know what happened there. I'm just saying I would have liked to see that one go a little bit further so there was no question. A quick stoppage like that always leaves doubts on what could have happened especially when Sonnen was winning all but the last 8 seconds of the previous fight and on my score card was ahead again in this fight. Things can chance in an instant and I feel like that fight had a lot more fight left in it.

I think all that he's gone though personally has aged him horribly.
I think Silva was out of character in the 1st. Sonnen had gotten in his head pre-fight. When's the last time you saw Anderson come out swinging like that at the start of the match? Chael capitalized on that big time. I agree with you, I would love to have seen that fight go longer.

You guys don't understand, watch the fight over! Round one was all to get Chaels confidence up. He took him down got a mount and didn't prove anything. Anderson silva was laying there with his eyes closed. Second round, he came out and tried to take him down and couldn't do it!!! I know some of you guys have had to wrestle? So tell me when have you taken someone down at will and one min later are unsuccessful in getting a takedown? It makes perfect sense and e gameplay was executed flawlessly! I'm glad he got the shit beat out of him!
Not only do I think that this fight had a lot more to go, I think that the ref jumped in there a little early. Sonnen was not improving his position, but the blows he was taking were not what I would consider to be devastating. The knee to the chest landed hard, but it looked like the ground and pound was hitting gloves and wrists more than face. If the ref would have waited another 5 - 10 seconds maybe Sonnen would have countered or used his superior ground game to at least stop Silva's attack. Or maybe he would have been KO. It would have been nice to see it go to its true conclusion.
What superior ground game? I have not seen this ground game that you speak of!
I remember commenting during the fight that Silva looked like he was meditating and just letting Sonnen wear himself out.
What about Forrest Griffen doing his little bitch fit that he does every time he loses, then being called back into the ring because he won? I used to really like Forrest, and I understand being passionate, but at least man up enough to stay in the damn ring.
OH YEAH! Didn't Sonnen call Silva out and say that if he lost again he would quit the UFC forever?

Sonnen is a great wrestler, but he does not have what I would call a great ground game. He's been submitted ten times.
For those who are saying this fight could have turned out like the first, do you guys realize that in the first fight:
1. Chael was on steroids.
2. Silva had broken ribs.
3. Silva still won.
Um that's not a superior ground game and also won rounds only count in descions! LOL! That's everyones argument.... "he won 5 rounds" in 2 fights and his loss column sell reads loss to A Silva by submission and Loss to A Silva by TKO! You can't be one dimensional and beat the best and he needs to take his weak ass ground and pound and throw it in the garbage!

Silva-2....Sonnen-0
Sonnen is lucky to be able to keep competing. Silva is out of his league and te best we have seen yet.
