View Full Version : Thinking about building a parts kit...

I was looking at this cheap Romy kit
http://www.classicfirearms.com/romanian-ak47-parks-kit

Add a Nodak receiver, some rivets, some compliance parts, and possibly some paint / touch-ups, and I could have my first parts kit build.

I'd like to make the first build cheap and easy, and this seems to fit the bill. Any advice??? Any chance of another build party in the near future?

Wait for Rachael to chime in or pm him. It mentions the bbl works for most, except milled receivers. You might have to fit the bbl to trunnion, which is no big deal, if you have lathe access.
He knows where almost all the deals (still remaining) are for 47 & 74 kits.
Go with the nodak for simplification of build vs bending, drilling, heat treating etc of a flat.
Build party wise?? I'm barely getting around and do not foresee good ambulatory movement for another 3-4 weeks.

this is literally the same parts kit

and this is a batter barrel (my opinion)

Barreless parts kits are cheaper at APEX. I would either get their romy chrome lined barrel or a U.S made chrome lined barrel from

Batter, a little bitter are we rach?

Yeah, the chrome-lined barrel would be a better option. If I can piece it together for the same price, great! My goal for my first build is a functional rifle. Anything past that is a nice perk...

Jim, sorry to hear about the lack of mobility. Good luck on a quick recovery.

Well also a cold hammer forged barrel has a longer lifespan than a broach cut American made barrel. And Jim not bitter I just trust combloc barrels more than American ones also with virgin romy barrels sometimes you get lucky and they have a circle y proof mark meaning they are Russian surplus barrels the Romanians acquired ;)

All the more reason to do A
GROUP BUY

I'm up for a group buy in romy barrels I need one or two

Did I hear group buy?[Coffee]
Who still offers them? I thought APEX was sold out?
I could be penciled in for a pair ;)

monganian

Well obviously count me in for one or two. Although after a group buy, I think a group build would be the next logical event.

Come to think of it,I do have a couple that could use some building ;)
And I do need to blast and park some stuff up.

I could probably use one for that 85 polish fixed stock build, that is if I cant score a Polish bbl for it.

Yes maybe I'll call apex tomorrow and see if they'll do anything special for like 10 barrels if so I'll message the mods on here to see about a group buy thread

Just keep it here. EVERY group buy seems to hit a bump in the road.
1) Sorry cannot wait spending money elsewhere, 2 days after OP
2) I know this is for caliber X. BUT can i get caliber Y? sorry.......
3) I know i said i would have payment to you by end of week, but............

See what price break vs. qty is then go from there.
You start a GB and why do you need to repackage and mail out someone elses stuff.
You acquire it and buyers need to arrange delivery with you.

jreifsch80

apex got back to me an unfortunately the best they are able to do is 5 dollars off a barrel and 20$ shipping for everything which is still a decent deal by colorado gun sales has on their website 10 romy barrels for around 950$ it would be awesome if they allow an order like that to be picked up i'll check with them

Any word on the barrels? What's your expert opinion on one of these... http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct1065.aspx

Also, I'm having trouble finding a decent built receiver. A lot of places are out of stock. Any tips?

haven't had a chance to call about local pickup from cogunsales.com

as for the barrel you asked about i personally don't buy any barrels that have the gas port pre-drilled since there have been problems multiple times of companies using the wrong specs.. as for us made barrels i like the barrels from arms of america also they're a colorado company. the idea of the group buy was for virgin romanian barrels, i doubt as many people would be interested in us barrels. i only want romanian barrels since the ones i'd get will be for my mint barrel-less kits that i want a more correct looking barrel for (my 86 east german kit, might get a maadi kit)

monganian
07-12-2012, 17:26
I just shot COgunsales an email about local pick up. I'll let you know what they say.

I hear what you're saying about the gas port, and it makes sense. I'll just need to be careful with doing the drilling myself... or the hole will be more out-of-spec.

Looks like their posted email is wrong. Justin, I'll try calling if I have time at work, but no guarentees about that.

The barrels from armsofamerica are very good. Installed one not to long ago.

Personally I don't care if they are true romanian. Its just one more compliance part that I have to buy.

jreifsch80

i just like to romanian barrels for a "correct" look for my nerd builds like my 1986 mpi-kms72

Thinking about another build party.
Only issues (major one) is the wife works nights now.
SO................It would have to be done on a sunday AND due to mobility issues, weather etc, I might limit i to a small build, BUT do a second one after labor day.
Been tied up with PT, and getting in to this thing called reloading. The reloading area of the shop has kind of blossomed into it's own kind of monster.
What ever you do, DO NOT have multiple Dillons in the same area.

monganian
07-14-2012, 16:27
The build party would be very nice, but if you're having mobility issues, it might be worth waiting a little while. I'm guessing that standing in your garage for a few hours isn't on PT's good list.

Maybe we could bring out a lazy boy or something...

bryjcom
07-14-2012, 16:38
He has plenty of chairs in the garage and by labor day I would hope that he's moving a lot better.

I still need someone to bring an AK builder 1.5mm die for the flats bending jig. Anyone? wink wink.

Big hammer, as soon as possible I'm going to have the yugo die made for my bending jig but everyone involved has been so busy unfortunately.

Time to start a raffle to get me one of them there electric scooters, OR a golf cart.
I blew off this groovy kids electric atv for $50-60 2 months ago, now i can't find one for shit.

Hey bob you should call Curtis and see if you could buy the inner die for yugos since you have an akbuilder bending jig, I'll pitch in and I'm sure the hammer will too. Also we should pitch in together for the polish blank drilling fixture :)

I'm sure he'll sell the die seperately if yogot the jig from him. When I have some time I'll give him a call and ask.Unfortunately I wont be able to order one at this time untill I get new banking set up,I closed out mine in New York due to the fact there only based in the east and not nation wide.

I tried getting curtis to sell one to me and he instantly asked where I bought the jig from. Told him that I bought it second hand from someone on the board. Never heard back.....

So have your customer number or order number ready or something so he can look at your history.

About $300 with U.S made barrel and $330-350 for an original barrel. You'll need receiver, compliance parts and some mags as well.

Unless you score on a matching number unissued parts kit. Not many out there now, but they were not too cheap

I just spotted this thread.
I thought you may want to know we have two of the "Sporterized" Romanian AK kits left (the kits the above link takes you to).
That will be the very last of those.
We do still have the regular Romanian M63 kits available::
https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/products_id/1820

Also, concerning the original Romanian cold hammer forged chrome lined barrels, we are well past the half way point of available stock.
These were a one time purchase thru an importer.

Don't forget AK magazines, like everyone else we have not been able to restock basic steel surplus since last year::
https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/21_122/products_id/35

We did just recently receive a shipment of these Romanian military AK 75 round drums::

They are a tight fit as most of the covers are about new.
