Of course, many counties and areas of the National Forest, etc. still have fire bans in effect.

(CNN) -- Much-needed rain and forecasts predicting cooler and wetter weather prompted Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to lift a statewide fire ban Sunday.

"Mother Nature is finally giving us some relief," Hickenlooper said in a statement. "Even though the 2012 wildfire season is far from over and still challenging, we believe conditions are such that local authorities and federal land managers ought to resume control over fire bans in their jurisdictions."
A number of Colorado counties have fire bans in place, which will remain unchanged by Hickenlooper's action, his office said.

Colorado has been plagued by several major fires recently, including the devastating Waldo Canyon blaze, which scorched more than 18,000 acres since beginning June 23 and destroyed 346 homes in Colorado Springs. The fire -- the most destructive in Colorado's history -- was 98% contained as of Sunday, officials said.

The High Park fire, which burned more than 87,000 acres and destroyed nearly 260 homes in northern Colorado, was 100% contained, officials said.
Two other fires, the Weber fire and the Little Sand fire, were at 90% and 40% containment, respectively, as of Sunday, the governor's office said. No new fires were being monitored or supported by the Colorado Office of Emergency Management.

The statewide fire ban, issued June 14, applied to open burning, including campfires, warming fires, charcoal grill fires, fused explosives and private use of fireworks, officials said.

More than 60 Colorado counties were forecast to move to moderate or low danger over the next week, although a few counties continue to experience high fire danger, the governor's office said. The wildfire season will continue for a few more months, and the governor will reactivate the fire ban if needed.

The U.S. Forest Service, Department of the Interior, Defense Department and the Federal Emergency Management Agency were providing support to Colorado and other states affected by wildfires and flash flooding, authorities said Sunday.

President Barack Obama on June 28 approved a disaster declaration for Colorado, as well as federal assistance for victims of the High Park and Waldo Canyon fires.

On Monday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will visit Colorado Springs to survey wildfire response efforts and thank those battling the blaze, authorities said.

Most counties still have enacted Fire Bans that are greater than the Statewide Ban. Wouldn't mind the shooting ban to be lifted though.

While this moisture is great, realistically it does very little to lower the overall fire danger. Short term, great but all we need is one or two weeks of 80-90's and little humidity and we are right back in the same spot we were two weeks ago.

It shoots alright. We got a diamondback DB9. I can shoot it with no issues, but when she shoots it, it FTFs almost every round. I watched her shoot almost 50rds like this and I can't figure out why... very frustrating for her to say the least. I want to say that she is limp wristing or just not holding it tight enough, but her hands had red imprints of the grips and from where I was standing, I couldn't see any obvious problems. I'm not sure what the problem is. She has incredibly small hands, so maybe she just needs a smaller caliber, but I'm not sure. The best thing happened though: She isn't very confident with her new gun (because she couldn't get it to feed reliably!), but she did finally admit that she really liked shooting my AR, and when I halfway jokingly suggested that she would have to get her own AR to shoot, she was very open to the idea.. maybe even a little excited. Nice find! (and thanks for picking up other people's 'trash')

Where I was shooting, there was only a little bit of .22lr brass, but nothing reloadable and no trash. I always try to pick up as much brass as I can, even though I don't have a reloading setup yet. I keep brass in 1 gallon plastic gatorade bottles and I have 2 gallons of .223/5.56 brass, 1.5 gallon of 6.8 brass, and 1 gallon of 9mm brass. Someday I'll get a reloading station...

the e-mail i received about an hour ago:

Hi folks! Good news – the shooting ban has been rescinded, effective August 2, 2012, on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and the PAWNEE NATIONAL GRASSLAND! Target shooting will be allowed beginning tomorrow. Just remember – everyone who’s been wanting to target shoot may be out there all at the same time. Use caution, be sure to let folks know where you are so they are not shooting toward you, and be sure you are not shooting their way. Also, Just a reminder: use caution if you are using steel jacket/steel core ammunition, as those will still cause sparks and could cause a fire. No exploding targets or tracer rounds, as those are not allowed to be used on public land at all.

Also, we will have researchers out on the grassland from time to time, so scope the areas out to be sure you’re not shooting the research and range folks! We appreciate that!

Have a safe and fun weekend!
