Sign up for a free google voice acct (yeah, I know they are a lib org) linked to your cell phone number, then set the acct on do-not-disturb. They can leave a voicemail at that time and google voice will convert it to mpeg and email the voicemail to you. In the CL ad, put the voicemail number (don't put your email address) and tell them to leave a message and you will get back to them. Ta-Da

I have posted an old Computer monitor three times now, been dissed 4 times by "Definitely want it I will call you to meet up" ( never give out my addy until I talk to them on the phone after I have replied a couple times via email weeding out the wackos and spammers)

I have also received too many to count emails with people enthusiastically wanting the thing to never hear from them again. I am selling it for $10.........

I really hate Craigslist, but sometimes the only place to sell certain things.

Some time back someone here on the site told of how his father had scammed a Craigslist scammer. Very funny story but I've forgotten the details.

I posted something for free on Craigslist a while back and no one would show up to get it. Everyone wanted it and said they would come pick it up and then just didn't show. On a friends recommendation, I listed the item again (identical description and pictures) and asked $150 for it. Sold it for my asking price the next day.

Gotta love Craigslist.

To each their own, but I would NEVER do this. Find a public meeting place for your transaction.

I didn't clarify i guess.

In the past i had to give out my addy on a couple things because they were too big to transport with my vehicles why I screened so heavily before. Everything else mutual public spot definately, but still screen them pretty good as well.

The monitor is the only thing i have for sale on there now but I might just go donate it. It has been a year since i sold anything on there.

Huh, sounds exactly like armslist. It's so hard to like some people.

Good family friend almost had the worst kind of craigslist experience a couple years back.

A couple came to look at their high end sports car, at their house near Littleton/Lakewood. Looked it over, gave them the "We will think about it" line and left.

A day or two later, the police show up. They inform our friends that the couple went to look at another high end sports car outside Boulder. When the owner opened it up with the keys, the couple shot the guy dead, and stole the car.

The neighborhood our friend lives in has only one entrance/exit. The police postured that the couple had planned the same thing to our friend, but feared getting caught with only one escape route and bailed.

Talk about a reason to CCW. Anytime I meet anyone I haven't delt with before, I'm packing, AND I don't meet anyone that seems shady. That includes any of you hooligans [Beer]

I remember one time someone posted a lady's address and told everything was free. When she came home from work her whole house was empty. This was Colorado too.

When I meet up with somebody for an online deal, Yes even you guys, I Bring somebody well trained with me. I always have my CCW, and my buddy usually stays near the rear door of the car, where the ar-15 is stashed.

Too many dynamics at work with internet deals to go about them all willy nilly, for me.

They know that you A.) have cash. B.) have an item worth some cash. C.) have a minimal evidence trail for them to be caught, should they act up. D.) In the case of firearms sales, the ante is just upped that much more from the get-go.

Too many horror stories out there. Talk softly and carry a big stick.

I think we should all default to first posting our items for sale here on this forum in the proper trading post sections, then after a couple weeks if they don't sell, post the ad on CL. I'd certainly rather give a good deal to folks I have something in common with, who may actually return the favor some time down the road.

Yeah, so somebody buy my motorcycle already... haha I really don't want to take it to CL.

I've had pretty good luck with online transactions in general, but I'm really paranoid. All the guys I have done transactions with here, after having met them, I would give the keys to my house and just tell them to go pick up their stuff. Maybe I am lucky, but its been a lot better than arfcom or advrider.

Agreed. Despite my minimal feedback since the crash in May, I have actually met almost a dozen members of this forum just this year, and they've all been great guys. The thing about places like this forum is that they naturally attract like minded individuals, so the common ground and mindset makes it much easier to relate and befriend someone.

amen any sale i'm always cautious.

i had some items on craigslist last month for sale. i priced them very fairly. i got an email for the items trying to haggle the price down to half of my asking. i replied- the items are fairly priced, there will be no haggling on these. I can meet you blah blah. he responds with another offer less than my asking and didnt respond to my time/location ideas....

so i responded in my next email with me holding the things he wanted infront of goodwill flipping the camera off and said- i'd rather donate them to a charity then have to deal with a moron like you. GFO POS. since i had to move that day i just gave it away [Tooth]. hate craigslist morons
