View Full Version : Interesting mornig after Friday the 13th
So about 8:30am out on the deck was the wife and dogs. A bird flew down on one of the chairs to say hello I guess. He let the dogs sniff him and just kicked back and chirped a few times and did his bird thing. We gave him an animal cracker he didn't much care for but he wasn't bothered by us at all. I let the dogs in afraid my biggest one would try to eat him. He didn't want to leave and I didn't know what to do with him. I couldn't get a pic because nobody puts things where they should go so I can't find the camera. We all came inside and within 5 mins he shit on the chair and left. He was a beautiful bird but unfortunately I don't know birds so I don't know what type he was. Either you take it as a good omen or something was wrong with the bird like sick maybe?
I think you pissed him off since he decided to hang out and shit on your chair before leaving[ROFL1]

I have parrots and they would act that way. Is it possible that it was someones pet that got away? Bizzare if it was a wild bird.
If your curious here is a link that shows birds around here http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CF8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pbase.com%2Frhopper&ei=84wBUI1hgbLZBeSr9KEL&usg=AFQjCNE_bB8bmJ1lsWGt6t8kbnKTOqwP8w
I found a injured hawk on Thursday and turned it over to the birds of prey foundation. Personally I love Colorado because of all wildlife we have.

We have been getting Blue Jays around the house this year.
Pretty birds. The cat is not thrilled though, they buzz him like a P-51.

It sounds like someone's pet. Our love bird used to chase off neighbor's dog... til she met the neighbor's cat.

^^^This. Apparently the bird has quality taste in crackers. Stop being so cheap. Next time break out the good stuff & he won't leave you a nifty little present on your chair. Lesson learned. [ROFL1]
Not unheard of. I was in the mountains and people were feeding the birds their scraps. When I got done eating I decided to toss mine out too. I held up my hand and before I could toss it a bird came down and landed on my finger. Scared the snot out of me initially but I managed not to shake the bird off. It sat there and ate the food out of my hand. Everyone around us was shocked. When my aunt was done eating I took her food and held it out and again a bird landed on my finger and proceeded to eat. Dunno if it was the same one or not. I got some odd reactions from the strangers there.

Looked alot like this guy but his beak to me was a little longer. About a half hour later he popped out in the front yard and was eating bugs out of the ground and following me and my neighbor like he wanted to be petted. The neighbors 3 cats started circling around so we scooped him up in a cat crate and took him to the open space and let him out. He was about to become din din.

Good for you! A good friend of ours has worked with Hawk Quest for years. This eagle was rescued very young and is so people-conditioned it can never be released. It just took too long for it to get healthy again, now it's human-dependant. Draws a great crowd though.

I had some weird animal activity lately myself. Yesterday a camp robber flies into the house and then proceeds to repeatedly pound itself against the bay window trying to escape. He crapped all over the window sill in the process. I caught him in a dish towel and let him go. His partner was waiting in a tree outside. They come right inside the back door sometimes to get at the dog food. This guy came flying right into the living room.
Then today I had a squirrel strut into my kitchen like he owned the place. I turned and looked at him and he just kept hopping around. I scared the shit out him (not literally like the bird) and he took off out the door.
Fun stuff with the wildlife, as long as the bears don't come in. [Tooth]

That's a great analogy. I can picture that quite easily. My cat left me a dead garter snake in the bathroom this weekend. I'm just glad he didn't leave it in my bed.

That's very cool! I've never had a wild bird do that with me, I'd be thrilled to death. I've had bird feeders 10 feet from our kitchen window for years, and get tons of goldfinches and other types, but never had anything come up to me. Other than the ground squirrels in state parks, of course. Those things will come up to a serial killer for a peanut or piece of popcorn.
We went to Discovery Cove in FL back in 2004, and I got to feed dead fish to the stingrays, which was very cool.
