I'm looking to fabricate something similar to this for my truck (not exact, but a reasonable idea). I can probably do a functional hack job with square tube, but not round. I have no idea what a fabricator's time and skill is worth, but I'm trying to do this on a budget. Shoot me a PM with a ballpark, if interested.

There's a coincidence... I sent him a PM on another issue earlier. Thanks!

My buddy could probably do this. he has been fabricating lots of stuff lately and they have a bender/shaper for the tube.

Metal Fab shop here at 6th and Sheridan by the new Grizzly Rock. They do this kind of work, just don't have any idea of cost to give you though.

He's a bit too far from me, but I admire his work.

PM sent
for all others 600.00 painted 750 powder coated.
they have a rail that bolts to the bed and then the top rack pin on so that the rack is removable.

That would be interesting with a soft top fitted over it.

Nothing against the other fabricators here. [Beer] I still miss Gib at Spidertrax.

I was thinking a bikini top to provide shade for the dogs. The rack will be used to attach leads to their harnesses so they can't jump out.

Tying off along the bed rail? Just make sure the leashes are long enough or you'll have dogs hanging off the side. [Hang];)

Right now, they wear full harnesses with a D-ring on the back, and are tethered by a short lead to the midpoint of the front of the bed. They can't jump out to hang, but this system is a little weak for the new guy, and they get tangled. This will allow side-rails of some sort to prevent lunges, and a stronger attachment point for the leads (probably from the top, or the midpoint of a cable across the bed). I've seen a dog get hung - would never allow it.

That dog in a bikini is wrong on so many levels...

Thanks for all the referrals. I expect I'm gonna work with Mtn.Man for this, just gotta work out some details. I'll post pics when complete [Beer]

And the dogs will be naked as God intended. No lingerie.[LOL]

If you sew up a sil-nylon bikini top, you can take it off to use as a light weight shelter on a hike.

I've got some plans for a sil-nylon tire cover with some internal pockets with the main pocket being large enough to hold a sil-nylon tarp. Would be nice to have when shooting out at Pawnee. ;)

You should market that. I imagine it would sell well among off-roaders.

That was my thought as well, but we'll see how difficult it is to make first, and how well it comes out. Everything works perfectly in my head. I need to move into my new place before I can get my sewing machine set up though. Also, I have no idea how well sil-nylon holds up to constant sun baking and temp changes.

I mentioned the dog hanging because of personal experience. I had one leashed to the roll bar. He usually sat in the front seat with no problem. This one time he decided to jump out of the truck (no doors). Luckily the leash was long enough for him to stand on his hind legs with the front paws on the rocker panels.

What is sil-nylon?

You might try Sunbrella. It's not waterproof but is good in the sun.

sil-nylon is a super light weight nylon that is coated with silicon. With the threads being coated, there is no "good side" like a tent.
