View Full Version : Signed up for CCW class. What's next?
Finally got around to signing up for a CCW class. Will be taking it at the Gander Mountain in Aurora. Anyone took it there? Good, bad?
Anyone know how long the wait is after all the propper paperwork is submitted to the SO, Douglas Co. in particular?

I also took my class at Gander Mountain. I liked it and learned a lot. Consider both Utah and Colorado. One reason is to carry in Nebraska you need to have a CCW from your state of residence. Utah is good in MN but MN does not honor CO. I like to visit MN.
Know that if you get a CO you might/will be added to CBI data base...
As far as hoe long... it differs per County. Mine took almost the full 90 days!
Welcome.

How much did you pay for the class, and when is it? I really need to get my rear in gear and get into a class, but I'm poor and busy.
The class is $125 and is scheduled for April 14, which is a Saturday.

Gentlemen - I haven't taken the Gander class so I shouldn't comment on that, but for an extra $5 you could take a Basic Handgun class from Jim Torrez of Tactical Skills Institute ($130) which meets the CO requirements for a CCW:

Plus, in addition to my Basic he offered an Intermediate class immediately following the Basic at a discounted rate. If you talk to him you might ask about that.
Yeah, he's a ways for you in Greeley, but his training is VERY worth it! And speaking from experience, I've had classes from other instructors and Torrez is far and away the best I've had.
My .02 cents...

So it took me right around 6 weeks to get my CCW from Douglas County. Also you should know that the current Sheriff for Douglas County does NOT enter CCW holders into the CCIC database.
I can't speak for the Gander class though.

Thing is the new legislation may require DC to enter CCW's into the database, biggest question for me is will DC also be required to enter existing CCW's into the database as well? Funny how the legislature added the database line after there were two newspapers that listed CCW holders personal info on their websites(virginia and illinois I believe) yet they still added the line. Seems to me that even our lawmakers can see that a database is a bad idea unless they make it non public information, which I would then have no problem with a database at all.
