So I'm up at carter lake this weekend camping and the group behind us decides to light a fire. Before I can walk up to say something the rangers pull in, after a short chat they take off, fire still burning. I'm confused to say the least.
Ps. Couple cocktails in the system so I. Keeping it short and sweet
Fire ban has been removed in several areas

Not here, can't even light a cig. If the ban was lifted here wouldnt everyone have a fire burning? Most of the front range is still under a ban. Unless something changed this afternoon and nobody told the packed campgrounds.

Was it a propane firepit?
depending on what "stage" of fire ban is in place, it may be completely okay to have a fire in an approved and permanent pit. I think most of the state has fallen out of the prescription for stage II fire ban so you will likely see them allowed in those kinds of pits.

Last news I read said the only ban still in effect is the one on discharging firearms.

The entire campground was full, one pit had a fire in it. When we pulled in we were informed no fires were allowed, not even a cigarette. Signs posted everywhere showing the ban is still in effect. I think they let them build one because it was one of the kids birthdays, still pisses me off today.
