Needing some guidence, please. I carried M16's for 2 years in Nam and 21 years in the Army. We all did, no big deal. However, I just bought my first AR15. Basically the same gun.

The rifle I got is a Bushmaster. I find that the stock is too short, and it isn't adjustable. I wish to replace it. Can I? If so, with what, from where and how?

I been shooting since I was 2 and know something about guns but this is a whole new wold for me, so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Congratulations on your new rifle! Be warned that customizing and accessorizing black rifles is an addictive hobby.

Is it an A2-style fixed stock? The stock is easy to remove and there are a ton of replacement options. Here are just a few:

Here's a quick video on how to remove the A2 stock. You'll need a specific wrench for the castle nut.

If you are going to a 4 or 6 position collapsible stock. OR you can use a brass punch to lock er up.

Guess what, I am looking to do just the opposite thing: I have a Bushmaster lower with a 4 position stock and I want to change the stock to an A2 fixed one...
We could trade stocks (or lowers if you want to keep things simple).
Give me a call or PM me.

I didn't see anything in the original post saying he had an A2 stock. Besides, if the A2 stock is "too short" I doubt he'll find too many that are longer than that.

He might have an A1 stock. Hey OP post a picture to clarify what you have.

Here are a couple pix. I don't understand A1 or A2, I don't know the difference. I look at my stock, I do not see where a tool could be used to turn a unlocking nut. I'm lost.

That is an A2 stock. The nut was in reference to a collapsible stock. What you need is a stock spacer to give you another 1" LOP Cheaper than dirt is just one link Brownells and other vendors also carry this item. It is an easy install. Remove stock add spacer reinstall stock.
WARNING" There is a spring and detent that hold the rear take down pin in place. This assy will unexpectedly pop out and be forever lost in the nether worlds of your floor if not careful.

If you do not want to pull the stock I know that extended buttplates/pads can be had, it just escapes me right now whom it would be.
You will lose the "trapdoor" feature of the stock.
