View Full Version : Warhorse: The military's 'My Little Pony' fan club
Just knew the repeal of DADT was going to bring em out of the woodwork.
There's a new insignia showing up on the sleeves of a small group of military men, but instead of denoting rank, it advertises their love for a cartoon inspired by the girlish 1980s plastic toy called "My Little Pony."
So-called "Bronies," adult men who are fans of the TV show "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic," have apparently been around at least since 2010, when the Hasbro-owned cartoon first aired. Within their ranks are "Military Bronies," service members from all branches of the military who share their love of the show and wear the "cutie mark" - a Rainbow Dash patch on their uniforms, Army Times first reported..

regardless of the patch and its meaning/afiliation, you cant slap non approved patches on your uniform. and this happens because the other branches of the military allow the camo uniform to be worn off base. In the Corps thats definitely against the rules. We couldnt fill our car up with gas, on the way to or from base, in cammies.
I like the official quote from the Pentagon on the right side of the Fox article. It really gives the article some substance [ROFL1]
"Non-authorized, non-military patches are not authorized for wear on military uniforms.”

I doubt this is going on outside of small group settings, and once outside they are removed.
I doubt the decline of discipline is due to the wearing of the "duty" uniform off work. 3 of the 4 branches have to use their heads for something more than a hat rack.

Oh Geezus, why did you post this ?
Now Ridge is going to have a chubby all night ! [ROFL1]
Just knew the repeal of DADT was going to bring em out of the woodwork.
From the article:
have apparently been around at least since 2010
While DADT's repeal didn't go into effect until 9/20/11
Though your implication that the show only appeals to gay men is wrong.

That's awesome.
"Non-authorized, non-military patches are not authorized for wear on military uniforms.”
...cause I have never seen service member wear an 'unauthorized' morale patch before.

Precisely. And that patch is no less a morale patch than one with sexual innuendo or misogynistic context.

It's 2012. I fixed it for you.

Whatever. Putting rainbow patches on and being obsessed with a show that was intended for little girls isn't gay. Suuuurrre. [Coffee]

So members of the 42nd Infantry Division are just a bunch of fudge packers?
I haven't seen grown men get so upset over such a silly thing since..........since .............. Well ever.

If you're so confident in your manliness, feel free to watch an episode. Unless you're afraid it'll turn ya.

Are there any guys with The Misadventures of Flapjack patches? That is a funny show.

Rainbow patch + infatuation with little girl pony show would make me question their orientation. ;) I don't really care if a man wants to get all "bronie". Just making fun. I for sure don't understand it. But if it makes ya happy, go on a head, just leave me out.

AR 670-1 is not punitive, however there is a push to make it that way.

sorry, i just don't get the whole pony obsession
even if you are gay, what is the appeal of a kids show for any adult. especially something that dumb
i have kids, i watch their kids movies, even enjoy some, but i am not running around wearing fung fu panda underwear and pretending to be part of the show.
Just like any fandom, people will take it to different levels. I enjoy the show, but I'm not dumping all my money into merchandise or making a costume or anything like that.

Can we tone it down a little? As with the rest of the staff (that I know of) None of us are taking sides in any of this.
So we have some posts that do not violate any rules around here many members sure seem to take it personal.
A suggestion. Kind of like the $500 SKS and cable channels you may not like.... Just a thought gang. [Coffee]

I am going to catch hell for this but I still like ya. [Beer]
Sorry, only comes with a Tapco stock and 10 rds of corrosive ammo. The sniper bipod is an extra $100. ;)

For $100 it better be spring loaded and clamp on to the barrel!
