Well I was over at friends for dinner and his wife and I were talking about the shooting. She stated that she doesn't agree with my religious values, nor my conservative pollitical stance. BUT that I have swayed her in my stand on firearms. She went on to state that it is obsurd that firearm laws arn't level across the field (and gave the example of background checks for gunshows and stores but not for private sales) and that in cases like that...she holds to the LEAST restrictive laws.

I was also going to mention something to this effect. I have noticed people have been a lot more... welcoming of my presence (while open carrying). I've also had 5 people in the last two days ask me about carrying a firearm. My response is of course to exercise their second amendment right, and to get training before doing so. All of them agreed with me. Hope there are some smart new gun owners now.....[Beer]

People are starting to see that Columbine wasn't a call for more gun control. It was the eye opening tragedy that we should never be so scared of guns that we are helpless to those with them. We should shun those that make this about anything but the loss of life and being helpless.

i did a swapmeet in in Ne and for the first 4 hours people were basically giving me the third degree about guns and the shooting . one lady would stop goning on about hoe the gun shop should be brought up on charges , but when i told her that he got them at bass pro she sang a different tune (witch upset me ) . seems as it was fine to sue a small business but suing bass pro would put too many people out of work , WTF. so i spent the next half hour talking to her about personal responsibility .even used the old forks vs fat argument . she said thats not fair . i had to enplane if your going to regulate something do to health and safety then she should start with the most obvious problem first. by the end of the conversation she agreed with me that its not the fault of the firearm but the individual holding the firearm .
its funny more people are killed in drunk driving or texting accidents than by guns but no one calls for a ban on cars or phones .

I agree, it is funny but this is the selfish nature of people coming through. Selfish people want to impose their needs (positive or negative) on others, they can't just live and let live. They need a car so they think you do too, they don't need a gun so you don't a gun either.

Yup. And cars and alcohol aren't constitutionally protected.

Funny you mention that 10mm, the range was swamped on Friday and 2 friends of mine and several more from my GFs work called me to get training for CCW. Its bad that they are doing it as a knee jerk reaction but good that folks are starting to understand that self protection is everyone's right and that the government cannot protect you, its your responsibility to be prepared to protect yourself and your loved ones. (and in my estimation anyone else who's life who is threatened )

Do many people open carry in Trinidad? I haven't noticed anyone yet.

I have found it best to stay away from ideological or philosophical arguments when debating the indoctrinated. I put things in simple terms. For example, it's not guns that are bad, its the bad guys who use them illegally...otherwise we would not be calling cops with guns to respond to crime. I also show the negative effects of bans by asking what side of a state/county line you would rather cross in order to rob someone...the side with a concealed carry law or the one with an outright ban?

In the end, it boils down to mistrust. Anti-gunners trust cops to have guns, but not law-abiding citizens, because they don't think of us as law abiding citizens, but as folks who are one lost job or argument away from becoming a killer. The more we interact with the public responsibly, the more we can remove this bias.

Yes, I have seen a few open carrying in town. I had asked one of our local LE's about OC and was reminded as long as the firearm is in plain view, no problem.

I never open carry myself. Up here near Nederland, I can imagine the looks of horror that I would immediately get from the hippie types that infest that town. I'm sure the police would be called instantly, but I could be wrong. But I'm not going to push it. Pistol under the shirt for a half hour at the supermarket doesn't bother me.
