View Full Version : Lots of Anti-Gun talk
I know these discussions are taking place under other topics right now but since this Tragic shooting in Aurora and like after many other events that happen with guns, people are going after guns. I use to think it wasn't such a serious issue but I now believe it may be. I have spent the last few days arguing with people in person and online about our 2nd A. I have seen on CBS just today talk from some of our Politicians and others about wanting to enact the Assault Weapons Ban again, Close the Gun Show Loop Hole ect. I fear we may have the biggest fight on our hands. I hope the NRA and RMGO as much as I don't always agree with them got some fire power. I believe this election is going to depend on whomever is pro gun right now. One question I have been asking some of these Dems when they ask me why I feel I have the right to own an AR-15 is "Why do you feel everyone has the right to have Health Ins?" Since I know the Dems are all for Obama Care. I am not against people being able to have Health Ins I am just saying that when it came down to ObamaCare discussions everyone I know as a Dem has said "Everyone has the right to have affordable HealthCare" so I just like to point out why is that right more important than the 2nd A? I have seen others post interesting Stats on the amount of people killed each year due to drunk driver compaired to guns but yet noone says let's ban alcohol, close all bars and liquor stores. There's my rant for now, may not be much but just what I was thinking about right now.
My first thought after the shooting was not let's ban guns or they are going to take my guns. My thoughts were wtf is wrong with this guy? Why did he do it and how can we keep guys like this from doing it in the future(nothing to do with taking guns I promise)
I still feel for all the people in the Theater Shooting and am outraged. Thank god for the fast response of the police and rescue and great efforts and prayers for all the victims and families.

Not that I believe this stuff, but it would benefit the anti-gun folk. We will have a fight on our hands.

I'm not ready to don the tin foil hat on this one yet. As Thomas Sowell once said (and I paraphrase); you don't need to stage these kinds of things because in a country of over 300 million people, someone is bound to do something crazy every once in a while.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that this was staged or this guy was encouraged or helped by anti-gun forces, but I also wouldn't be surprised to find that this was just a random act of nuttiness.
I still believe Port Arthur was set up, but for the most part I can't point to another mass shooting that I'm 100% convinced was a false flag operation.
We have to be prepared for the anti gun fervor (which I believe will be short lived) but we have to be careful not to do the very thing we accuse the antis and leftists of doing; politicizing a tragedy.

There are so many mentally ill people wandering the streets than the average person knows about. Difficult to find the proper care and help they need, leaves them wandering about the world. Eventually there is more evidence of them causing harm to themselves or others which allows the justice system to step in. I have no solution to the problem. More mental hospitals? Who decides if they are mentally ill enough to be locked up all the time?

There is no logic in the argument against guns. This same shooter could have easily hijacked a bus full of people and drove it off a bridge. Would we then have sensitivity towards mass transportation, especially buses. There are a million arguments like that, baseball bats, melee weapons, etc.....
I do not agree with some of the statements that this guy was crazy, a bit deranged and misplaced perhaps. He knew exactly what he was doing. IMHO, he snapped. I would be willing to bet that there are hundreds of these guys born everyday under the pressures and confusion of what the hell is going on in the world today. No justification by any means. Everything I have read about this guy, he is intelligent. Again, not trying to put the guy on a pedestal. My point is, screening people for the point in which they snap is going to be quite difficult.
It didn't happen in NY, Bloomberg should stop pushing his assinine agenda on the whole country. And news people should know everything doesn't revolve around NY.

I am hopeful it is all just talk and chest puffing nonsense. Afterreading the response by Hickenlooper, I am hopeful for the future of people thinking for themselves and understanding criminals have no regard for any law and that they will find a way to et whatever it is they want to perform heinous acts of violence and murder.

It would've been nearly impossible to find out if he was mentally ill. He had a master's degree, was in several academic honor societies, and he was one out of only a handful of students to receive NIH grant money. As stupid as it may sound, I bet built up sexual frustration was a big factor on why he carried this out.
There is no logic in the argument against guns.
Logic? -it's never been required in the past, it won't be required in the future.

Colorado already closed the gun show loop hole.

^^^^^ This!

When was this? I have not seen this yet and does it include private sales which was suppose to be apart of it? I'm guessing no because we are still selling firearms to each other here. Just curious.

Its different with the gun shows. If you meet or arrange anything at the gun show your supposed to fill out a 4473.

Keeping in mind the ill-informed public doesn't realize that most states allow for the FTF sale of firearms w/out BG checks. To most people, you can only purchase at gun stores & gunshows. So, typically, when the so called "gunshow loophole" is mentioned, it refers to any firearms sale w/out a BG check. What CO did was require BG checks @ gunshows while still leaving it open for no check at non-gunshow FTF sales. So, in the eyes if the ignorant, CO still has the "gunshow loophole".

i see dumb people
Dateline just went undercover at Aurora's' Gander Mtn (I think) to buy an S&W AR-15. They wanted to show viewers how easy it is to buy an "assault rifle like the one Holmes used." The sales staff was professional, did everything right, and even seemed confused as to why the buyer would want anything more than the 30 round magazines sold by the store. They showed parts of the background check process, to include answering questions about mental illness and convictions as requested on the form. What they DID NOT SHOW was the most important part...the federal criminal background check! Thus, they gave the impression that it is far easier to legally buy a weapon than it is.

The wife is watching the show, says the portrayal of guns and the process is making her gag. Totally one sided and blatant propaganda.
I saw that on Dateline and when they asked the guy if they seemed suspicious of him he replied "should they?"
