View Full Version : One step forward, two steps back
Seriously, it happened this morning. On Friday, after the terrible events in Aurora, my dad seemed like his Progressive Conservative stance had moved a bit closer to bigger supporter of 2A. He even hinted at the fact he might go for CCW. THEN...
This morning we watched the hearing live at the office and afterward had to discuss the elephant in the room. The gal that works here (a liberal) was bringing up the point that bulk ammo purchases need to come under more scrutiny and that the ATF should be asking purchasers questions when making these transactions. Then it was brought up about a registry. I vehemently disagreed on this stating "Let's just limit all freedom while we're at it!" I stood my ground and both her and my dad ganged up on me about my pro-2A stance. Looks like dad's not going to be buying a gun this summer... :(
He even went as far as saying "You're too far right wing for your own damn good!" [Help]

Have him read a few "Armed Citizen" stories to illustrate the importance of Americans having their 2A rights.

You have two problems - powdered-butt syndrome and liberal utopianism. Your dad is never going to think you have anything to teach him - he powdered your butt when you were a baby. Liberals believe utopia can be achieved "if only everyone would think like us." They ignore human nature and much of reality.
All you can do is throw facts in their faces - cars kill more people than guns. Crazy could have killed just as many people by driving his car through the crowds before the movie opened.
Keep a smile on your face. If they get you angry, they win. :D

Well their ganging up on me got me a little angry- they won. The problem is, and I love my dad, but I fvcking hate when he does this: we debate- well they present their side- then I throw some stuff out, then they attack then he stops it all and says "no more!" I tried to say that a registry is very bad and [the gal that works for us] interrupted, like she always does, and said this horseshit like "They should either have a limit on amounts of ammo you can buy or have more scrutiny on buying bulk." How? 'sir, you're buying 2,000 rounds, what exactly are you doing this for?' Criminals will just lie. [Bang] Well before I could retort the boss-man said "enough" and wouldn't let my speak my piece... whatever, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Ronin, I wouldn't worry about it. Your pops is always right, and liberals are like talking to babies.
I would also remove names of co-workers.

Awe man I feel for you!!
Biggest mass murder by a single person did not use any guns: Happy Land Club fire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Land_fire).
Even if they were to get rid of all the guns, folks would move onto other, more lethal means of killing crowds.

It drives me nuts to see gun violence statistics when they compare ours to other countries that have horribly strict gun laws or bans. They always seem to leave out the important parts, like that they have the same amount or more people murdered then we do it's just not by gun.

They did not gang up on you. You allowed someone to take advantage of your argument. Present it in a common sense fashion, NOT when the liberal is around to your dad.
The liberal [why is she still employed there??] acts only on emotion. Convince or sway your dad and he will realize he has an entitlement sucking "I am owed" employee who really is not a benefit at all to your business. That will resolve the liberal scent in the air, hopefully giving your dad a new look on life.

This is such a frickin' annoying trait. It drives me crazy. Damn "kum-bye-ya" mentality.

Ronin, I don't know you or your dad, but I worked for a guy who employed his son. And because he employed him I could tell he had no respect for him, did the same thing, cut him off during conversations, told him you don't know what your talking about, etc.... Because he employed him, he felt like he was still supporting him? I don't know if this is your situation, but it sounds the same.
By the way his son was pretty lazy, and acted superior to us all, cause he was the bosses son. Also tell the liberal chick to piss off.
Just my .02:)

I was thinking about this earlier and maybe you should get your dad to watch the video of the 63yr old guy in Florida defending the internet cafe against the two armed thugs. I just never get tired of watching that guy with his little popgun run those two punks right out of the store, sending accurate fire their direction the whole time. That guy was there with his wife and scared shitless the entire time but stood up and did what was right because he was afraid those two asshats would start shooting people. AND THATS WHY AMERICA IS GREAT- not because you can spout out whatever dribble your twisted little mind can think of, but because people are willing to do what is necessary you CAN spout off mindless dribble to your hearts content, even in an internet cafe in Florida, without fear.
America- home of the free, land of the brave.

No, nothing like that, that's not the way our family does things. He wants me to take over one day and grow the business bigger than he did. I work hard for him and take pride in our business... I'd love to tell the Liberal to piss off, but she does pretty good work here, despite having misguided principles. She was all shook by the fact that this guy bought 6,000 rounds and was allowed to. OH MY LORD! I've purchased bulk, and do so regularly. Cram it, I'm not using this ammo to do any harm (unless we're talking steel and paper targets). She wants to see a limit or at least some sort of "oversight" with ammo purchases... Why? That just means you're going to go buy 100 rounds from this Walmart, then 100 rounds from Gunsmoke, then 100 rounds from Gander Mtn, and on and on, when it would be easier for the MAJORITY of us who don't do these crimes to just buy all of our ammo at once, from one distributor. I've said it again and again, this chick is not very smart, hell, she even asked once what a "Nazi" is (she pronounced it Na-zzzee).
Let it go. Life is short enough without arguing with family members about something you don't agree on. Pick a topic you do see eye to eye on and move ahead.
