Ok, where is the best place to get insurance for a 1000cc sport bike?
I have Farmers and they want $5000 a year. I called Progressive today and they want $6000 a year.
I am a 23 year old single male with a clean record and 2 cars and a motorcycle already.
I am going to call Gieco tomorrow but would like to hear about any other company that could get me a better quote.

I have the gecko. $300 a year. But of course, my bike is a KLR 650.
Was this you that I saw today:

No, I ride alone :(
Good god, what make and model is it....[Shock]
I have a 1000 and 600, and I'm nowhere near there with progressive.
I've got a few years on you, but I wouldn't have imagined that big of a difference.
Everytime I've looked all over, progressive has been cheapest for me.

Dairyland.
Your biggest obstacle is under 25 and it's a liter bike. Judging from the quotes you posted, i'm going to guess it's a newer mc you are financing.

Geico seemed to seemed to have the best deal when I was looking last, although Progressive also had good deals. Probably not a fair comparison as I am an old person now

holy fudgecicles...
Im guessing you should have checked into this before you bought it!
Your age, family status and the type of bike are the reason you will pay dearly for insurance.

Allstate blew Progressive out of the water for me, But then again I'm a little older as well. I also have my homeowners and truck insurance through them so that helps a bit.
I'm paying $180 a year with a $100 deductible on full coverage for a KTM Superduke.
I have a 05 gsxr-1000 and a 09 harley vrod with state farm, I pay around 6-700.00 a year for both of them together
Dang. I guess $300 a year for full coverage on two bikes that are both over 1000cc isn't too bad then. [Coffee]
(Alright, so I'm over forty and both of the bikes are Harleys. [Awesom] )

I will be putting a good size downpayment on it.

Haven't bought it yet. I always check on insurance before I purchase a vehicle.

Man...I feel fortunate. I'm with Geico and I pay $229/year for my 2011 Harley and $57/year for my 2001 BMW 650GS...with really low deductibles.

I have a Harley wideglide. The gecko charges me about $255/yr.
PS - I'm under 30...
EDIT: I'm dumb, I posted the wrong rate, fixed above. That's for full coverage, $250 deductible...

What motorcycle experience do you have? People who jump right to 1000cc sport bikes often do themselves a big disservice. There is much more learning that can be done in a shorter amount of time on a 600, or even the likes of an sv650. And a lot cheaper insurance too.

Almost 2 years and the motorcycle I'm looking at is not a supersport but rather a sport touring.
Cool. Sounds like you got a good start.
I remember the days on the sport bike forums, 18 year old kids buy the new hottest 1000cc sport bike as his starter. Seems like we have some better heads on shoulders around here.
Good luck on the insurance. What kind of a bike?
At $6k a year I would be trying to avoid financing. A $12-13k bike (big four Japanese bikes) at $6k a year to insure... Man. I'd grab liability and save that $6k. You are basically betting on yourself not to total the bike in the first year and a half (depreciation). New GS, or an Italian varietal will be more expensive to replace, and offsets this argument.
I ALWAYS get uninsured underinsured coverage on my bikes too. Just in case someone puts me in the hospital without any insurance or money to pay for it.

doesn't sound right for a sport tourer...I'm 44 and just priced out coverage for an FJR1300 and it was $575 a year through met life....and $590 with progressive, full coverage low deductible.
My home built harley has a 120" (almost 2000cc's) and it's $175 a year

It's the whole Kawasaki Ninja name.
You Harley guys. Always thinking that a 120ci should be compared to a 1000cc SS. [Coffee][Beer]

That said I have Progressive. For my 1200 and 900 I pay a total of $76.00 a year for full coverage.

I shopped for insurance when I bought my Hayabusa and got the lowest price thru who ever Fay Meyers used. I don't have my bike anymore so I couldn't tell you which company it was.

State Farm is known for low motorcycle rates. They quote bikes based on cc rather type of motorcycle. A 1000cc Harley should be roughly the same as a 1000cc sportbike. Call and see.

He's financing a liter bike and under 25. Does not matter how much or little you are financing, it's still 1/2 the banks and they want to make sure their end is covered.
Price out a similar mc only under 1K. The 650's scream and figure you can save 1/2-2/3's the quote you have now.
Progressive has low rates, will work with you, and will cover motorcycles that other insurers won't. I recommend them.

I was with progressive while renting but just switched to farmer's with the purchase of my home. My bike is 1698 cc's butI'm 34 with no tickets and it was around 240.00 per year..
State farm. I'm paying $550 for my 2007 GSXR1000

Yep, I pay 2 bucks more a month for my Harley that is a 1250 than my gsxr that is a 1000

Basic coverage for that price. Until this mishap i always had 1 if not 2 1K+ displacement bikes insured. Full coverage ran me $450 year for 1, $525 for 2, again with full coverage.

Dude, give me a call, and I'll set you up with the numbers Allstste has.
There is no way you should pay 5000/yr with a clean driving record.

Especially if it is a sport bike. As with any new vehicle the second it leaves the lot it loses value VERY quickly. You are instantly going to be upside down. With sport bikes it is even worth.
If you have a "good" down payment use that money and score a smoking deal on craigslist and buy one cash. Then you will have no monthly payment, you can put as much or as little insurance as you wish on it. Almost all new bikes are the same as older models with very minimal differences (more electronics and different suspenison are the biggest differences.) I have scored some smoking deals off craigslist and ALWAYS flipped them and made money. Even when I wholesaled them to local dealerships.
If you are looking at a ZX10 look at the 2005 model. Lightest year with the most ponies due to the a very high compression motor. I had one and it ran like a cheetah on cocaine. That thing was a screamer.

Check out National Insurance. It is cheapo mainly for immigrants and SR22 folks, I used to have it because full coverage on the S-10 Blazer I once had was $120/month.
I was in a small accident and they were just as quick as the big comanies.
There is a office off Broadway south of Hampden, not sure how far on west side
or an office on the NW corner of 6th and Wadsworth.
I know some of you will assume, I at no point have ever needed an SR22 for insurance. I only used this insurance because I was poor and the bigger companies wanted way to much for a monthly premium.

Any sport bike is expensive to insure full coverage under the age of 25. My last quote was $300+/month but I have a very extensive driving record with lots of dings on it. Everything from failure to yield to a burnout at a stop light.
I just had a friend that was going to purchase a 2008 ZX-10 and told me his insurance as going to be $5k a year as well. Got pay to play.
