If you are unable to form your own words to express outrage, maybe you should reevaluate your position on gun control, OR have Dudley do it for you. All i asked was if you have contacted a rep yet. Yes or No would have sufficed.

While i as others across the country mourn the senseless killings at an Aurora Colorado movie theater, already cries of more gun control have been heard.
Perhaps some of the people who want stricter regulations actually believe any kind of law will prevent a repeat of the Aurora massacre.
I believe as others in our country the laws we have do enough already. Mr. Holmes (for lack of a better title) the shooter, Not alleged, but shooter committed numerous acts of violence against so many innocent people. He did so by planning his rampage months in advance. PREMEDITATED in his actions, he went forward that night intent on killing (MURDER) as many people as possible.
Murder is oddly enough already a crime yet cries of Gun Control fill the air.
Perhaps if we enacted stronger laws against murder this would not have happened.. Of course we know my last statement is ludicrous. Murder is illegal and yet it happens every day.
Enact all the feel good laws you want, until there are strong repercussions for laws on the books now, nothing will deter the next murderer from committing a crime.

Everything we do, be it letters, fax, e-mail and of course Phone calls let our voices be heard. Politicians know this is a critical election year. if their head has potential to be on the chopping block, they will keep gun control off the radar.
Not to say after 11/12 we will not have a massive push for more legislation.

Don't really care about the shooters details or anything about the shooter much at all. I make no effort to understand crazy but am not shy about letting our elected representatives know my thoughts. Good to remind folks to let their voices be heard.

Kind of, having a primer alignment issue with the 650.

I hope with all the posting on gun boards by everyone, some of us took time away from the board to let those not in to guns know how we feel.
You would be surprised how many people have the " Why contact them, it's not going to do anything" mentality.

Vote with the lever, vote with your wallets, before we end up voting from the roof tops.

Sorry to hear it man let me know if you need a hand or anything though I don't know much about those high-dollar re-loaders. [Tooth]

Your snide condescension to the people here is about as helpful to the cause as the empty hand wringing and discussions over the killers equipment.

This crowd tends to be pretty active politically (many in Denver and DC would consider us a nuisance ... which is as it should be).

And for the record, yes, I've called Lamborn's office (which is frankly preaching to the choir but he needs to know we back him) and I called Udall & Bennet's offices (as usual nobody answers at Bennet's office).

It's not Snide, just Condescending, in your eyes. It gets you talking and motivated, some do, some talk, and some do nothing, then complain.
This thread will probably run 3-4 pages full of members taking their frustrations out on me. Channel that energy and go after those who need to be made aware new gun laws are not the answer. Enforcement of laws on the books are. Crime is down, by FBI stats, Mass shootings make the news yet day in day out someone is murdered, sexually assaulted, etc. The public has become immune to crime unless it slaps them in the face.

Jim,
while I have contacted my elected officials, I have come to realize the fact That it doesn't matter. The days of our elected officials representing the voice of the people that they represent are over (for now anyways). I can no longer count the ammount of letters I've written that I got a canned response of

Thank you for contacting our office.....while I respect your opinion, I feel that (enter opposite opinion) and will be voting that way...blah blah blah, feel free to contact my office, blah blah, please support me by sending a check, blah blahUnfortunately there are now more people that rely on the .gov for a living that will continue to vote for free stuff, so these people continue to get elected

Polis doesn't represent me...he's a rank and file Dem. my letter to him means shit. I often think that while "their people" read letters they sit and laugh because we "wasted our and their time". And try to get a response from Bennet

while a letter campaign is nice and may make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, spending your efforts on getting them out is more helpful to our cause

Subject: In light of the Aurora shooting
Issue: Guns/weapons
Message:
Dear Colorado elected officials,
While we all mourn the tragic and senseless loss of our fellow Coloradans and Americans after the tragic events of 7/20/2012, many questions are being raised. How could this have been prevented? How can we do better in the future? Where should we place the blame? But I hear so many asking these and other questions that I feel are wrong with the exception of the first. It has been the policy, and this is no secret, of many entertainment venues, mainly movie theaters, that weapons are not allowed. I understand the meaning behind this and as a concerned citizen I feel that this is disproportionate to reality. Most commonly, in our state as my experience has shown, there are many more responsible gun owners than there are criminals. I am not stating that a responsible concealed carry permit holder could have stopped this horrific rampage, but perhaps a little foresight would have prevented it from even taking place. There are plenty of statistics provided by think tanks and even our highest law enforcement agency, the FBI, that show that locations where there are more relaxed gun control laws there is less violent crime. How is this possible? Deterrence. In locales where criminals are aware that the innocent and honest person is allowed to carry a firearm legally they are less likely to commit violent crimes against them, especially if they do not know who is carrying. If theaters were known as "second amendment friendly zones" allowing the law-abiding citizen to carry their personal means of protection I honestly believe that Mr. Holmes would have at least taken a moment of pause before carrying out his horrible act. I implore you, as our elected representatives in the house and senate, to not give in to the uneducated constituents in their call for more gun control. I would expect it to be common sense that laws only limit those who are willing to follow them, and criminals will not care what the letter of the law states, hence them being criminals. In closing, I'm reminded of the quote by one of our greatest former presidents, Ronald Reagan: "If guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns." So, as a Colorado voter, I ask that you continue to make our state great and to not pass any more gun control legislation. More laws will not stop criminals from doing evil upon the innocent, they only tie the hands of the honest, law abiding citizen.
Thank you for your time,

Read there are more than 20,000 (or 300 depending on the source, still a lot) gun-related laws on the books, one new gun law or twenty new gun laws would not have prevented this tragedy. Further restricting the millions of law-abiding gun owners doesn't "fix" the problem and is not the answer. The evidence shows restrictive gun laws or lax gun laws are a minor contributor compared with the socio-economic factors predicating murder however violent crime rates are reduced where law-abiding citizens are armed.

Quoted from another site (http://www.rkba.org/research/cramer/murder.txt) comparing violent crime in various California cities:

The desire to reduce murder is both understandable and laudable. The desire to find one simple cause, which can then be eliminated, is also understandable, though clearly absurd. But the evidence shows that lax gun laws alone are not a major factor -- and the range of murder rates in California suggests that the major factors are many, many times more powerful than lax gun laws.

It is a fact that even complete bans on firearms do not prevent gun-related violence and in many cases result in a greater incidence of violent crime due the reduced deterrent.

The facts (http://www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp) are out there, we need to make sure our law makers know them as well.
