I am trying to decide on a barrel for my most recent build. I am going with a 16" barrel and I am trying to decide between a pencil profile and a heavy profile. I can't see a heavy profile barrel adding that much weight and I think the longer life will be worth it. Palmetto State Armory has a sale right now and I am trying to decide between the two barrels. Is there that much weight savings with the pencil profile? Palmetto doesn't list a weight on their specs or I would have already made the decision.

How many rounds over the lifetime of the gun will you shoot?
Are you using the bbl on a select fire lower, doing serious mag dumps every time you slap a mag in ?
If not go lighter than heavier. BBl life unless you go ammo crazy will give you thousands of rounds of fun shooting.
go pencil unless you have a full auto lower

I just built a m4 lightweight.....
I used a melonite coated LT WEIGHT 16 inch pencil barrel with mid length gas system....IT ROCKS.

Depends on ones definition of "Heavy Barrel"- pick up a 16" DPMS with the SS bull barrel.
Nose heavy pig.
I don't see barrel profile on a 16" being overly critical.

I like the pencil barrel and I can tell the difference in weight.

I also like the pencil barrel.. Helps the weight of your rifle when you add accessories.
