We as ar-15 afficionados I feel should know better. I have no idea why anyone who
owns or has owned or enjoys the ar15 platform would call their rifle an "assault" any damn thing.

We ,in this instance, are our own worst enemy. The ar15 is not an assualt rifle.
It is a EBR, Enhanced Black Rifle, or modified sporting rifle or any other damn
name other than using the term assault in our description of this wonderfully fun rifle. [Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang]

I have an "assault" Cold Steel Kukri.
I used it this weekend to "assault" some tree branches that were infringing on my campsite and also near the latrine we dug.
I also plan to use it to "assault" the 5 foot snake dug in under my front porch. I think it's eating the rabbits, which I, of course. was planning to eat.
So there's that.

So now we need to be more PC for the libs? Wait let me add Ar-15 aficionados..... lol he said "afficionados "...

Would you feel better if I removed "assault" from my pistol listing? I thought it was funny and actually timed how long before someone posted about it. [ROFL1]

In times like this I always remember something my old dead attorney use to say: "Fuck em if they can't take a joke!"

You posted so I can say yes your post was what got me.

I think it only feeds to the antis if we continue to use the term "assault"
and aids in the agenda to get the ar15 banned.

If you throw logic into the arguement, what arewe assaulting with the ar15?
We are using it in legitimate sporting events, target shooting and marksmenship.
So to call the ar15 an assault rifle is a misnomer and just adds fuel to the fire.
Im not saying be PC here, but I saying that the term isnt a correct term for our beloved rifle.

Its the principle of it.

Lets just say for arguements sake, the very liberal gal in your hypothetical office after last weeks tragedy suddenly
became interested in protecting herself with a pistol. You mention you would be willing to take her
to the gun range and let her shoot your 22, 9mm your shotgun and also your AR both with the 22lr conversion and the regualr 5.56.
Would you outright say to her, "Yeah I will bring my ar15 assualt rifle for you to shoot a mag or two out of."
Or would you word it a bit more carefully if not word it a bit better for her to
start out on the right foot and call the rifle by its real nomenclature instead of
some anti media's description to sell more papers etc?

I say gun. Sometimes I'll get a wild hair up my ass and add a demonstrative adjective and say "that gun" when referring to my AR.

You called me out and schooled me, now if it was full auto, could I call it assault?

I just hope it sells quickly so someone can go assault some targets, wild hog, groundhogs, or use in an other legal means they wish.... [Beer]

Hope you sleep better knowing that you "taught" me the proper way to talk about my rifle. I will actually feel much better explaining my high capacity rifle in this way . I can see your point and believe it will make those anti's feel much better about it, just by dropping the "assault" part from it. Thanks!

I wasnt trying to call you out, you outed yourself.
I was trying to be non-specific about your post.
Im not trying to school you on anything.

Im just trying to get an unstanding why we as ar15 afficionados would throw ourselves
under the bus with naming our wonderful firearms with the BS name as assault.

Anything when used correctly is an assault weapon.

I call them what i want, don't give a shit what any liberal, anti-gun VPC moron thinks. They despise guns. If we were to paint them in gender neutral colors they'd hate it. No matter what "we" call them a pig is still a pig.
Screw them and the multi use battery operated vibrating toy they rode in on.

The NSSF, who sponsor SHOT show in addition to a lot of other activities, has been calling the AR the "modern sporting rifle" in reaction to the assault rifle nonsense. Their reasoning is the AR is the fastest growing platform in the rifle market today, more customizeable than any rifle in history. All kinds of hunting and varmint rifles are based on ARs. Target and precision shooting. 22s for training. And of course the many M4gerys for self defense, home defense, and similar purposes. My sense is the MSR title isn't gaining traction since there is a constant drumbeat of "assault rifle" from the MSM...

Well Mr. Chamberlain i hope you succeed.

It shall be my life's mission now to change the way we speak of AR15s.
I henceforth will refer to the ar15 and it's many variants as EBR(Enhanced Black Rifle) or MSR (Modern Sporting Rifle).

So let it be written.....So let it be done!!!!!

The ar15 is not an assualt rifle.

It's not the media that we should be blaming; we should be blaming Colt Manufacturing. The news media are just calling this rifle by the name that Colt gave it when they made this platform available to the civilian market.

AR-15 = "Assault Rifle" 15

Negative... The "AR" in AR-15 actually comes from the ArmaLite name, the original company to build the rifle based on Eugene Stoner's AR-10 7.62mm semi-automatic rifle (the predecessor of the M-16). It wasn't until 1959 that ArmaLite sold the rights to the AR-15 to Colt.

I really hate buzzwords.........anything with "assault" unfortunately buzz words once used to the effect it has becomes synonymous with what it was associated with. I personal do not use that word or hi cap magazines, etc.

Media will continue to use it just as they used the word NINTENDO for every games system known to man........ [Coffee]

I don't really care. I think we should stop worry about it, and play into their stupid game to totally fuck their game up.

Start calling all shotguns "assault shotgun", .22's "assault .22's", level guns assault rifles etc etc.

destroy the meaning of the word.
