Not heard that as well, asking for trouble. One is a rimmed cartridge one is not.
Scary stuff
That idea is variation on a common cold war myth. I remember hearing that all commie guns would function with non-commie ammo but our guns wouldn't work with theirs.

you can shoot .308 out of a .308 psl but they are fairly uncommon, i saw one that came into bear arms and supposedly theyre going to be imported again.

Chris Rock once said, "You can drive a car with your feet if you want to, That don't make it a good fucking idea."
i thought it was b.s. , although a pls in 308 would be cool ...well kinda , 54r is cheaper .

All of these "You can shoot X in Y caliber guns" stuff are very dangerous myths.
Shoot the correct caliber for the gun, period.

Well I remember back when I started shooting my buddy at an indoor range showed me a mossin nagant m44 that someone thought the same thing. Basically jammed the Round in the chamber and needed someone to pop it out. It don't fit....

This is why I have no .44 special ammo. I wonder if this all started in reference to the bullets only? .308 in a .311 barrel?

Agree w/Ben4372: sounds like someone was talking .308 in .311 barrel and it was misunderstood. I've encounted a few 7.62x54 rounds loaded with .308 bullets and while they do work, they're inaccurate as a democrat poll taker.

All depends on the bore. Many of the Finn 54r bores were close to .308 size! Mine isn't, but there are those that are...
I guess in desperate wartimes of yester-year, there were things that were tried that we'd not approve of today.

I think a lot of these things are perpetuated by "non standard variants".
If you ask some one what a "tommy gun" shoots, they will tell you its a .45... Maybe even throw in the ACP part...
But not all were, and there was a 10mm Thompson sub machine gun in the 80s for FBI's briefe love affair with that cartridge.
Add some dumb asshole watching some one stuff a 1928 or M1 with 10mm, and next thing you know, chuckle heads are saying "you can shoot 10mm through a .45acp thompson".
Such is the bane of tards with gun interest.
