So, I recently decided that I would like to assemble a 6.8 rifle for deer and hog hunting as well as for home defense. I heard quite a bit about the .300 AAC Blackout, and went to read about the blackout to see what all the fuss was about. On reading about the blackout, I found this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62%C3%9740_Wilson_Tactical which led to me reading about this cartridge, it says that it was started in 2011, uses all the same parts as the 5.56 AR EXCEPT the barrel (exactly like the .300 blackout) but it, according to wilson's website, can produce 30-200 more ft/lbs of energy.

I am not looking for a new rifle, but I am more interested in what this could mean for the .300 AAC blackout? Would a rifle in this caliber also be able to accept the blackout? Being made by wilson combat how readily do you think the market could accept this new caliber?

I remember reading somewhere that the magazines where different or standard ones had to be modified because of the extra 5mm in length compared to the black out

Have you looked into the .458 SOCOM ?

You want lots of energy...the .458 SOCOM has it in spades. And no mag mods, either.

I'm sure the .458 socom has a lot of energy, but it has a significantly larger bullet, I was more curious about those competing for smaller .30 bullets

I have made a bunch of Wilsons version of the 300 Whisper over the past year or so. Making brass is a pain compared to the 300.

I did a few large batches of brass for Wilson Combat until they got their own headstamped brass up and running.

For supersonic ammo it is a little bit better mousetrap than the Whisper/Blackout, but not by much. For me not enough to screw with the added ass pain of making brass. For subs, the 300 Whisper is much better.
