I would like to take a Utah CCW class to add a few extra states.

Does anyone know where I can take this locally?

Thanks

While I am thinking about it, how about Florida too? Is that even possible?

I took the Utah and Colorado course from an outfit that used a classroom at the Gander Mt. in Thorton. It was an 8 hr course and I walked out with all the paper work, pictures and noterized doc needed for both applications.

I can't remember the name or the cost, it was 5 or 6 years ago. I will look for my paper work and update this post with the name.

I believe that would be Profire (http://profireusa.com/training/)

Pro Fire. He is a good guy but when i did my instructor class he said it really doesn't pay anymore to do Utah because you don't pick up any significant states like you used too...

What additional states do you get? Haven't looked but I thought iwas like only 5 or 6 more?

Utah gets you WA, MN, OH, VA and WV, in addition to the states honored by CO. It is also issued by the State, rather than a county, so it may be more readily recognized by LEOs in other states

How so, might it be more readily recognized?

In a lot of areas, CCW is uncommon, so a LEO might not be familiar with the law. A state issued permit MIGHT carry more validity psychologically than one that says XXX county. Put another way, a cop in Alabama might question the reciprocity of a Utah permit less than one issued by Baca county, Colorado. To a cop that knows the law, it would make no difference, assuming his state has reciprocity with the issuing state. Colorado is fortunate in that our permits are valid statewide, regardless of which county issued them. Many states are not that way(New York, for instance).

I took the Profire class back in 2009. Utah gives me a lot of states: West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Minnesota, and Washington. My wife's family has a lake cabin in Minnesota so that was a big plus. I also drive to Pennsylvanina and Virginia from Colorado once per year and it is nice to have the other states along the route. I carried in Virginia in July this year.

I also got an Arizona permit which gives me Nevada and South Carolina, though South Carolina might not recognize a non-resident permit. Ohio does not recognize non-resident permits from Arizona but does recognize non-resident permits from Utah.

I try to avoid states where my permits are no good. It is hard to avoid Obama's Illinois which is a CCW waste land. I can't wait until that gets changed. Wisconsin has had pent up demand for CCW. I know companies that are selling CCW equipment and training there and business is very good for them.

+1 Profire USA does the class, you can get it in addition to your Colorado CCW for only like 50 extra dollars.
