View Full Version : Sig P226 or HK P30
Okay guys I have a SERIOUS problem. I cannot, for the life of me, decide between these two handguns. PLEASE help me decide.
Here are some important factors.
I'd like it to be a 9mm.
I have large hands to the point where an M9 with crimson trace grips fit them well.
I will carry it as I enjoy carrying large handguns.
Capacity is a good thing to have.
I will be putting a lot of rounds through this gun.
Please, for the love of God, convince me one way or another.

I can't comment on the P30, but I have an older 226 as well as a newer one with the Ergo grip. If you want to meet up at a range in the Denver area, you can try them both out. Many thousands of rounds through the older one. I'm a fan for life.
P30 -
Better ergos IMO
Lighter
P226 -
Cheaper mags (marginally)
I'd say both. [Tooth]
Or just try one out for a bit and trade it off.

P30 all the way, especially with where Sig's QC has gone. Change out the straps for the large ones and you're gtg. Mine has been completely flawless past breakin (on a new spring you really need to cycle the slide a few hundred times). Bill Springfield did a trigger job on mine years ago, and with 6,000 rounds plus down the pipe it shoots as well as it did when I got it back from him.
For reference I have shot both, and recently. A friend purchased a 226 and we went head to head. I still much prefer the HK.

Nevermind.
I know the P30 has a polymer frame, what composes a Sig p226?
I'd go with Hk. Polymer just makes a gun lighter.... nothing more, nothing less.

All steel but many of the parts are MIM. Their civilian guns are not equal to those they make for LEO or military contracts.
Interesting, I'll probably go with the HK.

Imho the HK P30L is the finest polymer frame pistol made period.

If going for a sig try to get an older handgun. If i remember correctly anything made before 2000 is quality.
Thanks guys, this definitely helped me make up my mind. After handling both, I like the HK better.
Thanks to SRG720 I now have a minty P30L.

Okay, he threw in 5 mags so I'm doing pretty well in that area. Have you carried the p30 and p30l? If so, how much of a difference is there?

An inch in the barrel/slide. I have a crossbreed supertuck that will fit both.

So how are you liking your P30L? I have been outbid on 3 now on GB and think I might just get a new one. What varient did you go with and did you do the safety?
I really like it. Everything about it is extremely smooth. It took me about 100 rounds to catch on to the trigger. It's a V3 by the way, no safety.
The majority of SIG's have alloy frames. There are all-steel models as well.
Welp, I ended up with both. Just got a west German sig p226

did you get this one: SIG E26R9BGER?
You are welcome to shoot mine if you ever make it up to Denver.
Hello, I was wanting to know if you could extend that offer my way - I can provide the ammo (quality, nothing less)
Thanks!
