Ok,I need to ask a loaded question,I want to join a club, but can't decide which one,yes I need to go check both out,and yes blgc has a waiting list, but what are pros and cons to each I'm your opinions, both are roughly the same distance from me,and I shoot long range, short range, basically I shoot everything,I do know blgc has a range to 600,and crc goes to 1000,any advice or personal experience, thanks
I'm a member at BLGC and love it. Can't speak for the other place, never been able to find it.

You joined huh, remember the steel dogs we were talkin about it,yes id be in to go with ya as a guest,i still have your buisness card..........ill pm ya with my number
I have shot at both of the long ranges. The BL range is 600 max with about 12 firing points and no target pits. When we do highpower matches it is done at 200 for that reason. On the plus side, you can hang steel I believe.
The CRC Long range is a true 1000 setup with true pits and target frames. Have 20 or more points I think and lines at 1000, 900,800,600,500,300,200 I think. Also has flags on the lines for wind calls during matches.
I have not used the pistol or short ranges at either.
Suggest you come out to each, best way is to pick a match open to the public and see what it is about.
Either place, you're gonna get sunburned and windblown!
The last time I checked Ben Lomond allowed 50BMG and Colorado Rifle Club did not allow 50BMG.
The people I talked to from CRC didn't seem to NFA friendly, I'm was told NFA is not allowed there. BLGC is NFA friendly.
If you're going to shoot either one you might want to check and confirm their written rules.

BS - they are "NFA Friendly". We run cans on our match rifles out there every month. Guys run SBR's in the short range berms and it's not uncommon to hear the report of full auto.
To the OP: I have been a member at both. Ben Lomand is fine, takes a while to get there from SE Aurora, limited to only 600 yds. CRC is off of I-70 and is a quicker trip. They have a 1000 YD KD range (1040-1050 yds if you put steel in the backstop) and a nice silhouette range out to 540. CRC is a larger facility and rarely crowded. The pistol berms at both are more than adequate.
Yes, it is windy at both but welcome to shooting in Colorado.

Can't be worse than the Whittington center?

I've been a bit interested in this as well. I was a member at Ben lomond for a few years but could never make it out there much. Now I have more free time and am debating which to go with. Anyone know if I join the crc how Lon it'll take to be approved and ready to go shooting?
Both have their pros and cons. I belong to CRC and run several of the matches out there. The improvements and investment into infrastructure and targets has been pretty amazing. Does the BOD have some internal squabbles...yes, but it has NOTHING to do with the disciplines.
The East ranges have 6 shade covers, a large awards awning and is getting a 100 and 200 yard berm added this year. With the multiple ranges, I have always been able to shoot pretty much on my own during the week. There is steel on the Silhouette range for general use. The .22 RF benches are nice if you want to shoot with plugs and not be next to a boomer.
RV pads...drag the camper out and a stay a few days.
Full-auto is not allowed.
Joining CRC is simple, no waiting list. Send in an app, you will get a call and go take the tour and get your credentials. May be a few weeks.

Thanks for all the replies fellas

.
Any specific reason?
FYI, BLGC membership cap has been removed. BLGC is very NFA friendly but paperwork checks will become more prevalent. As membership grows, so must the RO staff and safety checks.
I haven't been to a chapter meeting in about 6 months, but I talked quite a bit with the club Pres George W. yesterday at the range and the membership cap has been lifted. He said the Franktown chapter took in all 28 on their waiting list at the last meeting.
The addition of 6 new competition only pistol berms was a major contributing factor to lifting the cap.
What would I need to do to check out the range? I currently have one with blu core but am up in the air wheter to renew. Can i pay range fees for a day to shoot day? Please PM me to let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

BLGC?
Start by checking out the website. There are many updated pics of all the facilities on several of the info pages. http://www.blgc.org/about-us
Attend as a guest of an existing member
Attend a public event (see website calendar)
I think you can contact a club exec to schedule a visit. See the website for contact info.
I try to get out there once a week usually Thu or Fri. I would be happy to show a select few around. Guests must be escorted by the member at all times, so you're on my clock and under my control if shooting, but we're usually there all day. You can just look around and leave, or stay and shoot. If you do something unsafe, you'll be asked to leave and escorted out the entrance.
If needed, contact me via PM.

I've shot at both and been a BLGC member since 2005. As Mark Said, they both have advantages and disadvantages. They've all been listed out here.
The BLGC waiting list was bumped up by 200 due to the six new pistol berms recently built. If you are thinking about BLGC, better do it now.
Checking NFA paperwork at BLGC? Never seen it, nor do I suspect it will be a regular occurrence out there. I personally know all but one or two of the RO's and the CRO and President have been personal friends for over 7 years. Unless some policy has changed recently, RO simply don't run around and check people's paperwork.
There is some talk about trying to make a 1000 yd range at BLGC, but I'm not sure if it's going to happen. I unfortunately haven't been as active as I would like to have be in the clubs out there lately.
Last I'd heard about a 1000 range at BLGC was they'd done a study and the cost was estimated in the 7 figures, so that idea was shelved. But I love the place.
Brutal, you get out there once a week?!?! You suck! I'm lucky to get out there once every three months, usually longer than that. [Bang][Cry]

I don't spread rumor. Our friend and CRO Dan M. stated this Friday when he shot an nfa item with us. RO's will be checking for NFA docs.
