Just shy of 6 months since the ATF cashed my check, so I called today to check the status of my application. The guy was very friendly and professional, but told me that an "error letter" had been sent out to me this morning. I filled out the Form 4 provided to me by my FFL, which was on two pages, instead of the front and back of a single sheet. I learned today that they prefer a single sheet, front and back. Mail them a staple, a single, unused staple.

Oh man that sucks so bad. Unbelievable that they are that picky when the paperwork is correct but 2 pages instead of front and back. I cant believe they actually kicked that back.

My second form they kicked back because I didn't include my Articles of organization. They didn't ask for them for my 1st or 3rd-5th. Not very consistent. But it only takes another week or so after you send it in. You'll have it in no time.

Well, not "prefer" more like "require" for at least the past few years.

Carefully copy the front of the other sheet onto other side of the signed back sheet and send 'er back in.

This is what you're paying the FFL the transfer fee for -- to not screw up such basic things. Please post the name of the dealer so the rest of us know who to avoid.

That was my first thought, but I'll take it up with him first, and give him a chance to make it right. As pissed as I am, he's still a good guy, and I don't want to mess with a man's livelihood out of spite. I'm sure he won't make this mistake again. I know I won't!

This stuff happens. You learn and move on. The 'good news', if there is any, is that they will process your form right away after you correct the 'error'. Ms. Santamaria objected to my signature one time. I had to one-line and initial over the offending title and mail it back. Took 30 seconds to address, then back in the mail. It was approved and sent back in about two weeks.

Too basic an error to excuse by saying "stuff happens".

According to the various NFA boards this is no longer the case. You don't go back to ground zero, but it does add approximately 3-6 weeks to the approval.

On the flip side, approval times appear to be getting shorter.

Have been an FFL SOT for 7 years. Never a kicked back Form 4 until 3 months ago. NFA branch is tightening terminology, even though I copy the info right off the Form 3 that they approved 30 days earlier. Talked to one of the examiners that is an addition to staff to help clear the backlog.

Now, with every Form 4, I call and confirm the key blocks, description and model, and then send it in.

Not the FFL SOT fault, its a regime change at NFA in Martinsburg, WV

Straight from the ATF Forms Download Page:

"After you download the application, please photocopy the front and back of the application to one sheet of paper. The National Firearms Act Branch will not accept the application if the front and back are submitted on separate pages."

Now I'm trying to remember if my Form 4 was front and back or on two pages. I guess I'll find out if/when I get the error letter.

Sure, rub it in! I shoulda checked the website. Instead, I followed the instructions from my FFL. Ultimately though, it's on me, and I learned from it (so did my FFL). It's never fun drawing attention to my own mistakes, but I figured it might help out someone here. My corrected app was delivered on 8/9. Now, the wait begins, again...

I hope yours was on one page[Beer]

If you did not post this "minor delay" issue someone might post asking if they need to send it in as 1 or 2 pages. Every bit of NFA info (facts) we know ahead of time saves us all in the long run.

I did forget to fill, in one part on the fingerprint card. They called about it, i asked if they could fax it back so it will be back on their desk the same day. Agent paused then said, well seeing how your other FP card is done correctly, i'll let it go, This time.

[Wiggle] Larimer County Sheriff was kind enough to correct me prior to mailing the forms in. Mailed forms out April 11th of this year, so I am guessing... next month or month after.
Who do we call and what information is required in order to inquire about our status?

call 304-616-4500. You'll need your name, your FFL's business name, and the serial number of your item. Every time I've called, I've spoke with a guy named Damon. Always professional and helpful.

This was my expierance as well. I didn't send in a piece of the trust that the examiner wanted as well. Once they received it, it was less than a week.

You'll have your approval soon.
