Hey folks, I've been on a mission lately to find an M&P Pro 5" in 9mm lately, but can't find one anywhere. I'd like to get this pistol for shooting comp, but I figured I would also get some opinions on here, and also like to know if anyone has seen one for sale anywhere...

Have one, love it, want another. Stock barrel accuracy in general is poor, but aftermarket barrels make them very accurate.

There are/were 2 just like the picture at the Firing Line in Aurora. I have 2, my stock barrel accuracy has been excellent.

I JUST bought my M&P but not in the Pro.
The extra money is bullshit, the "pro" trigger is still notchy and iiffyy..
I'm going to get an APEX Trigger and some Night Sights...for what I'll spend, it should be better than the pro for about the same price.

The main advantage about the Pro or L is the sight radius.
However I shoot a Glock 17 better and faster than a G-34. As far as M&Ps go I shoot the Pro faster and better. Dont know why.

If you get the 4.25" Pro- you get Trijicons. The stock triggers on both of my Pros are fantastic, even better after about 2500 rnds thru each.
Saw one at Sportsmans Warehouse in the springs last weekend. I bought mine a few weeks ago and it took me a long time to find one locally.
Buds Guns has the 9mm M&P Pro 5 Inch in stock and at a good price. I listed a link to it below.

That's a rip man. Once you add shipping and transfer, it's cheaper local.

I'll have to try Firing Line and Sportsman. I only want to buy locally. Thanks for the replies, folks. I'm only going for the 5" too, which is why I'm going for the Pro.

How many rounds do you have through it and what do you consider excellent?

First, as a lefty, any gun with ambi-anything has my attention right off. I like the ambi slide release on the M&P. It also fits my hand, the Glocks do not. Another pistol that fits my hand well is the XD. I'm not high on the XDM, as I think it is overpriced, and no improvement over the XD. I like the trigger on the Pro, and it has only gotten better the more I shoot it. I doubt that anyone else here has put more rounds thru their M&P Pros than me, as I have put approx 2500 thru each (2) of mine, plus 1400 rnds thru my Shield, which has a similiar trigger. The triggers on all have gotten noticeably better (to me) after about 1000 rnds. Smoothing out and feeling more crisp. That of course could also be me simply getting accustomed to them to a degree. I also found a fantastic captured spring set for the Pro by Sprinco. I tested it on one, then bought one for the other. Reduces felt recoil by about 25% and keeps the muzzle on target by reducing muzzle flip. All of these guns have been totally reliable thru 5400 or so rounds, with not a single issue of any kind. I have also found them to be extremely accurate, as I don't think I could shoot any better. FYI- I bought a KKM(Storm Lake) stainless aftermarket barrel for one. Put about 200 rounds thru it- saw -0- improvement in accuracy so I returned it. Gotta love Brownells!

Still would like to know what your actual 25 yard accuracy is. By 1000 rounds, mine had gone from 4" to 9" at 25 yards and the POI had risen 6" as well. The enlarged hoop on the 9Pro barrels is a problem that the rest do not have. The stock barrels have been extensively measured by many and the lock-up so poor that acceptable accuracy is probably not possible. Storm Lake barrel returned me to 3" groups. I only have 6K on my Pro though and I know others who have way more than that. Sure, you may have that 1 in 100 fluke, but buyers should know what they are getting. Having switched from Glocks, I really like the M&Ps, but only a fool would bet on accuracy in the 9Pros.
Also, Storm Lake is NOT KKM.

I thought they were the same, since Brownells advertised the barrels as Storm Lake, yet when I got it, it was marked KKM. I have never heard of the accuracy problems you describe- anywhere. I don't doubt your issues, as you obviously shoot the heck out of yours, more so even than me. I don't shoot pistols at 25 yards, as at that range the front sight post would completely cover the bullseye, so precision shooting would be impossible, at least for me. 99% of my shooting is done at "combat" distances of 15 yards and less. I don't have a Ransom rest, and never shoot off of sandbags. Always offhand. At approx 10 yards, I will (with care) shoot out the 10 ring on a standard B34 silhouette. Keeping 100 rounds in that space, with only the occasional flyer. I consider that excellent accuracy, right on a par with, but not equal to, my Wilson CQB, Nighthawk Predator and Les Baer Premier II. Again, I have 2 of these, very far apart in serial number sequence, and the accuracy I describe is the same for either one.

I'd watch the classifieds on eno's forum, they seem to come up somewhat frequently.

My biggest gripe with the M&P's is they breed like rabbits.
Still one at SW in the springs.

Grabagun only charges $5.99 for shipping and most FFL's only charge $20 or $25 for the transfer. Also, don't forget that when you purchase a new pistol locally you will have to pay tax which adds another chunk of change to the price.

Yikes! No offense, but your 3 1911s should keep 100 rounds in the same 10 ring at 50 yards. Never been in combat, never plan to, but 15 yards seems a lot less than the military guys use for their combat training and certainly less than appropriate for practial competition, which the OP wants to shoot, so 25 yard groups of 5" or less are almost required. The 5" 9mm Pro M&Ps just don't have that in stock trim.

I've never pulled a trigger on a handgun at a target at 50 yards- so I have no idea. I probably couldn't even see the target, as it would be totally obscured by the front blade. Not trying to argue- just giving my own personal experience. Also-my understanding is that 80% of the targets engaged at an IDPA match are within 5-15 yards. Don't know what matches you are shooting at 50 yards, but they are probably well outside of most people's limitations.

I am willing to bet that, with a little bit of practice, anyone can do quite well at these longer distances.
50 yd targets are not the norm but you will see them every now and then in USPSA. 25 to 35 yd target arrays are much more frequent.

Anyone with a nice young set of eyes! Very few people I see can shoot much of a group at 15 yards offhand- much less 50, and I work at a pistol range.

Believe me, I am no spring chicken and even I can put holes in the A zone at 50 yds. Give it a whack one of these days; it's good to challenge ourselves to test the limitations of our shooting proficiency as well as that of our equipment (it's also a ton of fun to ring 8" steel at 50 yards with your pistol).

1st chance I get!
I got mine at High Plains Arms in Englewood a few days ago. They ordered it for me and it took about a week to come in. It was time much better spent than spending that week driving and calling around and then ordering one anyway. Even with tax it came out less than MSRP so I don't have any complaints about the price.
FYI - one listed on Armslist: http://www.armslist.com/posts/560128/colorado-springs-colorado-handguns-for-sale--smith-and-wesson-m-p-9-pro

$609 for either M&P Pro. Not including the gov't theft (tax). Well under MSRP.

I've put 7K rounds through my 9 Pro since May, and am thoroughly impressed with it. A buddy's 9 Pro is very accurate with the stock barrel, but my factory barrel was among the least accurate samples I've fired. Offhand, it grouped roughly 8" at 25 yds. After installing a KKM barrel, its groups shrank in half, and it now shoots as accurately as my other fullsize pistols. I've run it in Steel Challenge, USPSA and IDPA, and it has never choked in competition. The stock trigger was decent, but mine was much improved with Apex components.

Bah, I'm thinking mine is going downhill now. I have some troubleshooting to do. Good news is Apex finally has the Bar-Sto barrels on the way. I may send my slide to them to have one fitted...

I have a 4.25" Pro series 9 with the night sights. I love it, have used it in both defensive pistol and 3 gun matches. It's a good size while remaining capable to be a duty/carry firearm if I need it to be. I also love the auto-forward feature which makes reloads a breeze.
