View Full Version : medical favor needed please.
Long story short my roommate/girlfriend had a cyst on her back removed and has to have the packing in the wound replaced every 2 days. She is in the middle of a job transition and her health insurance lapsed on the 31st of this month. At 130 bucks a pop we can not afford to go every 2 days The doctor is fine with us replacing the packing as long as she comes in for a check up once a week. They gave us the packing, gauze and syringes to wash etc. The only thing they can not give us is a lidocaine to numb it up.
Does any body have any lidocaine or know where i can purchase some?
I grew up on a ranch and have doctored horse pigs cows so i know i can do it just want her to be comfortable while i am shoving the packing in.
Thank you in advance

Clove oill will do the trick. OR turn one of those compressed air in a cans upside down, spray on area. She should be numb for 5-10 minutes tops.
You might also consider some pain meds about 30-60 min prior to working on it.
You can't buy injectable lidocaine unless you're in the medical field. You can get the powdered stuff online and mix your own, however, it is very dangerous because too much or in the wrong place can disrupt heart function.
burn cream is part lidocaine. very close to the injectable concentration. however its topical only.

You know that much about this, yet you can't drive a damn four wheeler next to a fence without running through it!

Still haven't rolled it like you did. Twice [LOL]
OP, you may look up how Ambesol does internally. Seems like it would work, but I don't know for sure.

And just dump gunpowder into the wound and light it.
Don't know if you need lidocane specifically but orajel has benzocaine in it. Might work.

Compressed air in a can , upside down is a BAD idea. Can cause instant frostbite and you will have a real big problem on your hands.
That had to be one effing HUGE cyst to require that much packing that often.

Just plain ice works for me. Leave the ice, in a bag directly on it for a little while. Try that once or twice and see. A hell of alot cheaper than drugs! [Beer]

There is aerosol cans of topical anesthetic meant for postpartum application, but might work. The brand is called dermoblast and it's benzocaine based, not lidocaine, but it should work. Just remeber that this is for topical application only.
Anything injectable will be prescription only or veterinary so that's not really an option, not to mention the potential health effects and risks of infection if you don't know what your doing.

are you supposed to be using topical lidocaine or injection? if you really want to numb the site you need to inject it. its not that expensive really, but its a controlled medication so you won't be able to get it anywhere. also, i am confused a bit by her situation, is she in pain constantly or is this just for numbing it while changing the packing?

I do not even know what the hell this means???? I am none of the above. I can do long division in my head thank you. and if you are going to call someone out on being a Retard you should probably F7 your post before hand[Tooth]
Yes i understand the nature of what i asked for it was a simple request. I was trying to make a decently uncomfortable experience a little easier on her. And because there are so many great people on this board that instead of calling me a retarded ignorant felon they offered me various alternative solutions. I am confident that what ever i choose to do she will not be worse for the wear. So if you would kindly not shit on my thread again i would greatly appreciate it. effin Noobs
Oh yea and Stu you are more than welcome to tell her that[Peep]

Oh, believe me, I would be glad to give you some of my stash, but I have no stash. Maybe sometime in the near future, but that won't help you much at this point. Without an inside connection or prescription, I'd likely look toward topical sprays and ice to alleviate the pain,.
I'll probably end up sticking a gram or so in a med kit with a bottle of sterile saline when I get it built up for SHTF.
Whiskey.
I was gona say this with what DSB said below. Should be good with that. [Beer]

I've used ice for digging out rocks from my arms and legs. Works great, especially with alcohol.

I'm with flatline, dermoplast is probably the best o.t.c analgesic you will find. Its 7 bucks and is primarily used postpartum, but it should work. Good luck!
