View Full Version : Airborne Firefighting
Thats time of the year again. Tested out the systems out this morning, start flying next week. Here is what dumping 3,000 gallons out of the back of a Herk in 4 seconds looks like. This is about .75 seconds into the drop.

Here is an older pic of #1 dropping on a flare up on the Hayman burn in 2002.

Lastly Civilian Air tanker #16 starting a drop on a ridgeline in Southern California a few years ago. Just a little lower than he really needed to be...

Who do you work for, or who owns those planes and where? I know H&P are out of the game and they sold off all their parts last year. I actually got my multi from a fire bomer pilot.
Thanks for the pics! That first one is cool.
I loves me some big planes flying low!

302nd training for the summer season today in NM. Thanks for the pics Stuart. I dont often get to see drops from the ground.
That third pic should win some award. I dont know who took it, I am guessing some CDF guy.
Who do you work for, or who owns those planes and where? The planes are US Air Force. The squadron at Peterson AFB is one of 3 squadrons in the AF that do the MAFFS Firefighting mission.
Headed to San Diego in the morning.

Good luck Tom personally I would let all those rich anti-gun liberal pricks homes burn to the ground. Any chance you could replace the fire retardant with some sort of fuel? Like gasoline........[LOL]
Got home last night. The guys that replaced us will be home after a week or so. The winds are supposed to pick up again later this week.
All we worked was San Diego County. Over 250,000 gallons of red goop in one week.
Lots of people out there have lost everything. I saw more destroyed homes this year than the previous 17 years of doing this combined.
