Make your appointment now, if you hope to get your permit before Christmas... They are already booked to the middle of October. You don't need to have taken the class before you book your appointment, just make sure you get it done before your time comes.

I didn't know you could make it first. Three weeks ago, appointments were only booked out a few weeks (anecdotal) but the Denver thing screwed it up... I'm glad to see that is the public's reaction is the way it is though!

Thanks

????

The Aurora movie theater shooting has spurred a lot of people to apply for a CCW.

State law is still 90-day shall-issue.

Yeah, I get that, and El Paso county has a good reputation of being way ahead of the game.

But for those that aren't, what's the recourse? You can't just start carrying without a permit, even if they are overdue... It's off topic, just wondering

recourse is go rattle their cage- if you're polite and push the right buttons, they may issue it before they get all their back-office paperwork done, then follow up later.

or at least you'll move to a front burner when you point out the law... They'll make it right, or at least try their best to. (as pointed out, it's one of the better counties in the state, this has the backing of the elected Sheriff)

I was under the impression that the 90 days started from the appointment, not from the initial phone call.

It would make sense from the initial call, though.

Well, booking appointments two months out would only give them 30 days to process and get back to you. So I'm betting it's 90 days from the appt.

El Paso does only charge $60 for the permit though, apparently one of two counties less than the mandated $100 maximum. Another reason to like it here (as if I needed another!)

Wierd way to do things, IMO.

In Boulder county you drop off paperwork at the desk, which starts the 90-day clock. They call you for the appointment once you're approved, at which time they fingerprint you and make your ID card.

What is the point of the appointment in El Paso? What actually happens at that appointment?

Its 90 days from the time of your appointment and the when the signatures were made and your app was signed off on.

Denver took 96 days for mine. I called on day 92 (thursday) and was very rudely told its not ready ready and I should check back on Monday...

Same stuff, just different order. Do all the paperwork, photo, prints first, then just wait for the permit (from what I understand, I haven't gotten that far yet).

Arapahoe. Walk in with application. Wait your turn. Answer questions orally (same as questions on ap). Fingerprints and photo. Wait for call (mine 52 days). Pick up at front counter. Done!
