Maybe there's a reason. Good article here on the "cycles of violence" in the US, approximately every 50 years.

For the past 15 years, Turchin has been taking the mathematical techniques that once allowed him to track predator–prey cycles in forest ecosystems, and applying them to human history. He has analysed historical records on economic activity, demographic trends and outbursts of violence in the United States, and has come to the conclusion that a new wave of internal strife is already on its way1. The peak should occur in about 2020, he says, and will probably be at least as high as the one in around 1970. “I hope it won't be as bad as 1870,” he adds.
Things probably won't get to a SHTF level, but I can definitely see the pressure building to more riots, violent crime, etc.
for those that weren't around in 1970, what is the reference?

Race and anti war riots of the late 60's and 70's.

A few things going on in the US during the 70's, ok lots of shitte.
I believe the 70's was the follow through and aftermath of mid 60's revolt
Watts riot 1965 You had Huey P and crew involved
60's - mid 70's is the growing opposition to the war (though never declared) in vietnam.
1969 charlies dune buggy army offed sharon tate and others.
1974 patty hearst kidnapped (allegedly) by the SLA. later robs bank, goes by the name Tania? ends up in jail mid 70's (76?) after being found guilty of bank robbery
1968 Chicago dem convention where it was insane. Which led to the trial of the Chicago 7 . This was television at it finest, with everything happening. Protesters and news media all getting their skulls cracked. UPSIDE was it shining a light on true corruption of chicago politics.
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/conventions/chicago/facts/chicago68/index.shtml
1970 Kent State, national guard shootings
71 Attica prison riot. This was a vivid memory due to the number of law enforcement people in the family.
Just a few things. Growing up then was well worth the price of admission
I find it interesting all this transpired WITHOUT the use of todays social media, FB, twitter, the internet in general.
Everything was by word of mouth, joined by the ground swell opposition to vietnam. People just took to the streets, literally. Protest, riots concerts, mass sit ins. Again all done by word of mouth.
Todays "protesters" cannot get 1-200 people to sit in @ the OWS in Denver, no matter how many "tweets" they send out.
Bizerkly (as we called it) campus had 100's within 20-30 minutes of the word going out for sit in's. Same thing around the country.
The emotion of the 60's & 70's is gone. OR .........we all grew up
Sorry, Do Not see the same cycle of "Violence" happening today as there was in the 70's
Hell today's protesters are too busy ordering a double latte and "range free" sandwich.
DUDE what time they want us there??? Sorry man i have Pilates then a facial at the spa. And that's the male population at work.

With the title, and your recent EWA training- I thought this was going to be about whether or not there will be a walkout/lockout[ROFL1]

I was 9 years old in 69. Hated hippies/liberals then, hate 'em now. Even that young I was appalled that they would treat veterans and cops the way they did. Very formative years for me.

I can see it turning real ugly if a large asteroid impacted. Last big one to hit North America was the Barringer Crater in Arizona 50,000 years ago. All the big time researchers say about every 50,000 years the earth gets hit by a large asteroid. Just the dust released into the atmosphere by the impact could cause massive crop failures and billions would starve. Yeah NASA is watching but not alot they could do...
http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/
I'm sure after the impact there would be alot of violence!

Well you did see them hooking up all the phones in all the empty cubes right? That's because they're making the site a call center if needed.
I think there's a good chance it's gonna happen in the next couple weeks.

Insightful post and I largely agree with it.
I believe that a lot of what is inhibiting the formulation of larger gatherings is the availability of too much information. The days of having to actually GO somewhere to see what is going on are gone. As you said, the Facebook, tweets, and instant phone calls to friends allow people to hear and find out about what is going on without having to even go. Their human curiosity can be satisfied without having to go anywhere. And I believe that curiosity is largely what got a vast number of those protesters to initially turn out. Now they can get almost all of the facts they need about a gathering and then weigh it against their incredibly 'busy' lives and opt for their palates and spa trip instead.

agreed- they're digging in for something... I'd say it's 50/50 by Sept 6th (13th month anniversary)
I do know a number of call center EWA's were re-routed to our building, but I'm Tulsa-bound if it happens (doesn't that make a bunch of sense)
At least I can drive it, and bring much more with me than if I was flying...

I don't think this new wave of violence will be from protestors. I think it will be coming come from sexually frustrated loners. Look at the Columbine Shooters, the VA Tech shooter, James Holmes, et cetera.

This is why they have no drive. The emotion of being involved, in the streets, tear gas, riot police, hippies, bikers, construction workers, all mixing it up.
Outside of the gun issue which is emotionally driven. The hipsters, gen whatever's don't have that involvement, or commitment, we did back then.

Combine the loner with copycat's and potential for an actual nationwide group effort. Picture Flash Mob only with explosives, showing up at 1300 for the lunch crowd, to display their message across the web. Maybe.
Anything is possible.

No, the last one was around 1908 in Russia/Siberia, and it was big enough to wipe out a forest/city. That video of an asteroid streaking through clouds at 1000 ft is pretty cool, but thats just a little baby.
You don't see the hippies, but we have alot of RACIAL tension going on, especially with hispanic illegals, and look at the White house, total third world corruption. So, yea, 2020 seems like a good time, cut them racist white boys down to size forever, so we can swim in the swill of a third world toilet that is now America. The 60's was the devil seed, and I'm 1/4 Lib, I should know. All of its bad, immigration, illegal immigration are the biggest issues, tipping the demographics from White European to Third world, and the morons who don't care think they are going to live in 'America' then? They don't now. Look at Mexifornia. Gangs everywhere, White and Asian gated enclaves living in paradise while one block away is the encroaching third world hell hole. Add to that Neo-conism that destroyed Conservatism.
Countries GONE. Ain't commin' back. Pat Buchanan spells it out for the past 20 years. No secrets.

I always raise an eyebrow when people act like race dictates politics (or even culture.)
California is a lost cause for a lot of reasons, "too many brown people" is way down on that list. Texas has a similar proportion of hispanics; it also has one of the strongest economies in the union.
I also get itchy when people start talking in ways that make me think they're prepping for a race war in which I'll be on the other side.
The problem with a race war, as the late, great Col. Cooper said, is that you don't get to pick a side or stay out of it. The other side will toss you in without even asking. I would prefer not to have to shoot people because they think I'm evil for being brown, so I am always wary of talk like this.

Yeah but that was an icy asteroid that exploded above the tundra. I'm talking about a large irony asteroid. The metallic composition combined with an average velocity of over 20 km per second will generate an EMP that would take out an entire hemispheres electrical grid. Then when it impacts the earth, billions of tons of ejecta would probably kill everybody within 2000 miles.

I figure this: Unemployment is in reality close to 20% easily right now. The government is trying to squeeze everyone else more and more at a time when REAL inflation is hovering about 6% not the government numbers (http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data/inflation-charts). Hell, I wish I was given as many massages as the government data, I'd feel just as good.
The debt rating for the US is dropping and is probably only as high as it is because of threats to keep it artificially high. Pretty soon we will hit the breaking point here just like Greece and other failed Euro states.
What will happen when unemployment jumps another 5-10%? When the gov't is forced to stop paying for student loans, unemployment, generational welfare, payouts to farmers, and all the other ways they keep people on the dole?
