Ive had my ccw for a bit now but have yet to purchase a gun just for this. I was pretty sold on the ruger lc9 but would like to hear about other members experiences with it or comments.

I like mine. I took out the dumb mag safty thing. The trigger is like a staple gun, but 250rnds down the pipe no problems. Fairly accurate, packs flat in my IWB holster, I want to get some items from these guys for the trigger

trigger pull on that thing is like starting a lawn mower, dump it and get a glock.

It's not too much smaller than the shield or XDs.

You should seriously consider the lighter and more compact Ruger LCP instead. In many ways it seems to be a far better choice for CCW. I've heard a number of complaints about the LC9 (takedown, malfunctions, bulkier than expected) and lots of great things about the LCP. Most of my friends carry the LCP and leave their bigger guns at home or in the car.

My wife had one for a while. It never had any malfunctions in it's brief, 100 round or so time that we owned it. It concealed like a dream on me, but was a tad too large for my wife to conceal IWB with typical early 20's women's clothes. It was more difficult to shoot well than I would have felt entirely comfortable with, but was still easier than the pocket .380s. We ended up going to a P3AT with crimson trace for her to carry IWB because it conceals much better for her tiny frame and tighter clothes.

I think this is partially correct, but it is akin to someone asking if a used VW Beetle would make a good commuter car and you come back with "Meh ... a brand new Porsche Cayenne would be better". [Tooth]

For what a new Kahr or Sig would cost he could have two LC9s ... plus good leather ... plus a couple boxes of quality JHPs.

I haven't shot the LC9 but I've fondled one at an LGS (and dry fired it). Not even remotely close to a target trigger, but it felt good in the hand and by all accounts they're reliable (which is the most important quality in ANY CCW piece). I'd take one over the similar offering from KelTec any day.

A sig you're absolutely right, a kahr... not necessarily as true. I bought my Kahr CM9 for $300 used a year or so ago. I know new ones are a tad more, but not much over $350 if that. For what it's worth, I used to have a keltec p11 and my dad has a pf9. The trigger pull on my cm9 is significantly smoother, breaks cleaner, and the trigger is wider, all equating to a much better feel for roughly the same weight (physical weight of the gun and the trigger pull).

I have a LC9 and a Shield. I choose the Shield over the LC9 when I need to carry something that is small.

I've shot a few different LC9's, and actually prefer my PF9. Its been 100% trouble free so far

I have a LC9 and carry it on occasion when I need something reasonably small. It's not my favorite by a long shot. The trigger pull is definitely not good but I can hit with it. Truth be told, if the Shield had been out at the time I would have gotten it instead. I rarely carry it though.

Spend the extra money and get the Shield (if you can find one), or a Glock 26.

first pistol I bought was the LCP and I freaken hated it. bought the PF9 cause the LC9 wasn't out yet and it was ok but I kept going through recoil springs, sold that piece of crap and I just bought a LC9 last week as a back up to my LCR .357. The LC9 does feels a lot better then the LCP and PF9 did. I need to get out and shoot it though works been keeping me busy, hopefully I can sneak away tomorrow for some range time. I think Galloway will be getting a phone call from me after I put a couple hundred rounds down range to see if the trigger bar and hammer will be needed, LCI and mag safety for sure will be gone.

LC9 is a solid choice for CC. I considered it, but instead bought a Shield the day they were announced (April 12th). Has been very good, although with 4 FTEs so far (1300 rounds total) it is currently at S&W for analysis.

I like my LC9. Opposite to what was posted earlier, my LCP will be looking for a new home soon. Waiting to see a Shield.

You're the one going to be carrying it, what do you think?

I'd shit can everyone's ideas and go with a S&W 642, 638, both 38+p, the 640 in 357 or one of the LCR's. All of them average $400 + or -
All of the pistols mentioned do not fit my hand, too thin and uncomfortable to shoot, for me. You asked...

If you are set on a 9mm go for it. If you would consider a .40S&W, Whistler has a smoking deal on one in the TP forums.

An expensive copy of a KelTec Pf9, 1 of three models that they copied from KelTec. Ruger copies others firearms, and then they act like it is something revolutionary. When they do actually come up with their own designs, the damn things are ugly, and weigh a ton. They are sellouts to the FEDS. They actually agree with, and promote forms of gun control. Why would anyone buy one of their "boat anchors"?

Because they make a few decent firearms. Regarding selling out, it was already beaten to death. I doubt you own a gun that the mfg didn't do some concessions to the feds during the gun hysteria hey day.
Even worse, If you want to go there (again) is how many mfg still have factories in ban / hostile gun states.
Start your own thread in GD if you're going to rant.

Bill Ruger is dead, and with him the anti-gun rights BS. Your other arguments are valid points of discussion, but the "Ruger is anti-2A" hasn't been true for a decade.

No, the AWB was Bill Ruger's idea ... it was his Crony-Capitalist way of harming his competition while pissing on his customers. While he was at the helm I refused to buy anything they made. I don't like to speak ill of the dead, but in his case I'll make an exception. His death was the best thing to happen to Ruger.

That said his successors have made up for his anti gun rights nonsense and are good and true supporters of the Second Amendment.

The LC9 is fine as far as I'm concerned. However, you'll want to practice a draw stroke often, as these can produce a decent slide bite if you're not well practiced and try to draw quickly.

Thanks Bailey, very informative. Pf-9 is the better defensive weapon than the Ruger copy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

From my limited experience with double action only guns with super long and heavy trigger pulls, it seems like follow up shots are pretty much out of the question.

i have an lc9. is not a bad way to go for ccw in 9mm. just depends on where you are going and what you are wearing etc i guess.

i used to have a p3at and an lcp, but got rid of both and prefer my bodyguard 380 for a lighter and smaller carry. i go back and forth between the lc9 and bodyguard, both are good and shoot well.

I have used the Ruger LC9, Glock 26, and the SW Shield and dont carry the glock anymore due to weight.
The Ruger is very snappy. But up close and personal it will do.
I like the shield for its power. Very easy to conceal, depening on what holsters you choose to use. Mostly for me it depends and what I wear determines which one I will carry that day.
