OWN A FRIGGIN' WRISTWATCH? Not once during this entire miserable fu*king kitchen remodel has anybody actually showed up when they said they would. Is it really that hard to actually show up when you say you will, FFS? It's not like I have the magical mystical moving house, and they have to search for it each time they come out. I'm sitting here waiting for the electrician to come out and run 1 measly effing wire pigtail so the drywall can be inspected and buttoned up. He called me last night at 8:30 to find out how early he could come out. I tell him anytime after 6 am is good. He says"We'll be there between 7 and 7:30. Now 7:38, and guess what...still not here. WTF?[Rant1][Bang][M2][AR15][Mad]

So, I get to be late for work YET AGAIN...

My consumption of alcohol has risen dramatically since this disaster began. I'm up to almost a beer a week on average...

After the tornado hit some of the guys we dealt with were never on time. After the 3rd day of waiting for them to show up i was a little pissed. SO when they did show i told them to get off the property and go home. Have your supervisor call me before you return. Also tell him any money paid has been stopped at the bank.
MFkers start tap dancing a tad faster after that.

Gotta swing by the home depot or the parts store.

Yea I would use Jim's suggestion. After being in the trades I'm always quick to tell them if they are not here on time then they simply do not get paid. Then keep a close eye on the work also because once you piss them off they will cut corners.

This is common it the construction industry. Being a subcontractor on a lot of jobs I have to ride these contractors all the time. When I'm asked to measure a job based on when they say it will be done I have to tell them to call once it is done to schedule, because it is NEVER done when they say. Getting paid from these guys can be even worse. I tell them I'll be done on such and such a date and when I complete the work said date they are not ready to pay because it is a given I would be late like everyone else. They are so disorganized it's amazing they can even get out of bed.

Pays to hire a quality company.... Been a GC for 16 years and It took me a while to learn but I only hire the good guys, It cost a bit more but the results are better. If you hire the lowest guy well guess what!

Sometimes. One of the subs was highly recommended. Day 2 he leaves the side lights like this, power still on! He said i don't do electrical when asked why he didn't cap them off.

2-3 days later he's a tad buzzed after lunch. There may or may not have been something allegedly implied regarding violence with both him and the GC.

Skilled craftsman aren't cheep and cheep craftsman aren't skilled.

You get what you pay for. Do you put out a bid when you go to a doctor or dentist. Then go to the lowest bidder.

Actually not, my ins company handled it. The up side is the INS co adj shit canned the contractor and said that ins co would never use the GC again. And he put the word out to other adj too.
Unfortunately some subs think they have cart blanch once they get a job. If the home owner lets them get away with shit they will.

I am still gonna call lowest bidder! Well because we know the insurance company isn't looking for the middle of the road best quality bid. They are the worst of the worst when trying to protect their bottom line..... [Beer]

We've been let down by many "not-the-lowest-bid" contractors.

insurance companies don't give a shit except cost.

Having almost any kind of workers show up late when I am paying for their work is really something that bugs the hell out of me but down here in Trinidad, we are very lucky to have them even show up on the day they said they'd be here. Last time we had some work done (had sidewalk formed and poured), when we were just about ready to sign the contract, I asked/told/suggested (?) the owner to put a clause in the contract that it would allow me to deduct $50 for each day that they did not show up unless a timely phone call was made to me EARLY on that particular day. Owner was a little reluctant to add it and sign it but he did do it and they showed up each day and arrived OT. Work ethics have gone down the crapper in the last 20 years and to top it off, it appears communications are of an extremely low priority!![Rant1]

Electricians showed about 7:48. Worked for 20 minutes, finished what needed doing, and left. I went and chased parts for the shop and made it here by 10...usually I'm here by 8:15...My boss is an asshole*, but it's not likely that I'll be fired...

* I'm self employed...

I usually pride myself on being within 10 minutes +/-. Anything over that and I'll call. Last week driving to a job 20 mins from the house, they randomly shut down Parker road between Belleview an Quincy for 15 minutes while asphalting a side road. Sometimes shit happens.

I win a lot of bids by being the lowest price, but I also have a minimal overhead. Other times, I may not be the lowest, but can do it faster. I just hate when I do a bid job fast and then get complaints about how much it was and how fast I did it. I spent half my life developing my skills and buying tools to make it easier and faster. I also work for myself and time = money. Maybe if I was getting paid by the hour, I could drag it out like others [LOL]

Nah, I couldn't.

Careful big boy, don't drown yourself

I know...everything in moderation...[ROFL1]

Back in my youth, we'd ride our dinosaurs down to the bar-cave, quaff a few dozen brews, then club a wench over the head and drag her home by the hair. I just can't drink like that anymore, nor do I have the desire to. Besides, the wife wouldn't appreciate me bringing home strange women with head injuries...[Tooth]

Why do you have to take time off of work to watch an electrician do 20 min of work on what looks like the outside of your house?[LOL]

Do you know why cavemen drag women by the hair?

Also, what do you do with the rest of the beer?
