$1,600 worth of rifle, instead of a $320 TV delivered to man.
http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/08/tv-amazon-assault-rifle/

When D.C. resident Seth Horvitz ordered a flat-panel TV on Amazon, he didn’t expect to get a military-grade assault rifle in return.

Horvitz ordered the TV, a Westinghouse 39-inch LCD, for about $320 from a third-party electronics seller on Amazon.

On Tuesday evening, a large, oblong box arrived at his doorstep via UPS Ground.

“When I saw some metal parts inside the box, I thought, ‘Maybe this is a TV stand or mount or something,’” Horvitz said in a phone interview with Wired.

“When I realized it was an assault rifle, it was pure shock and disbelief.”

Not being one to want a personal “shock and awe” arsenal of his own, Horvitz contacted the D.C. police. They immediately confiscated the box, which contained a semi-automatic Sig Sauer 716 patrol rifle. The police informed Horvitz that the gun was illegal in the District of Columbia.

Someone in UPS stole his damn TV..stuck the original shipping label onto another box (siggy) to keep the tracking bar getting scanned.

"Watcha mean Mr. big brown truck man, I ain't seen no ass-ault rifle"

If you look at that pic, it really looks like there was possibly 2 in the bigger box....

That would be a hard call. I'd have to worry about it being a sting since I post on places like this.

Military grade assault rifle eh?

Maybe not in our nation's capitol.

Even after Heller, guns inside your home still must be registered with the Metropolitan Police Department. It is a daunting task and few people have actually gone through the process. Getting ammunition and extra magazines without going into Virginia would be virtually impossible.

When I worked in the District, I didn't live in the District. There is a reason for that.

Be safe.

Even in old movies, John Wayne, Client Eastwood, revolvers and lever actions never went empty either. Therefore, military grade and potential ban means anything post matchlock.

That would ruin a perfectly good anti-gun news bit of an honorable citizen turning in the evil assault rifle to authorities.

Living in the District would give you a very different perspective on this story. I'm not saying what he did was right, but for someone who lives in the District, being within ten feet of a semi-automatic weapon, while not being LEO, military, or thug, would be totally foreign and pretty scary.

The nation's capitol is not as gun friendly as Colorado. Just look at how many online vendors won't even sell to DC residents.

Unfortunately Mr. Vespa rider is way too much of the future. He almost certainly never shot a real gun. Probably never even held one. The only real ones he's seen have been carried by LEO's or pointed at him by someone who took his wallet. The closest thing he's ever been to using guns is the many hours he spent shooting zombies in video games.

Suddenly a big evil assault rifle arrives at his door. Probably crapped his pants. Real guns have such a heft and feel compared to his video game plastic ones. I'm not at all surprised he called the cops. probably was afraid that touching it would make it start shooting or turn him evil. Sad.

I am not contesting that but its this comment that got me. Since when is one firearm considered a personal shock and awe arsenal....

How convenient for this to occur during a time when internet sales of firearm related items (ammo, mags, etc) are coming under severe scrutiny.
This stinks of Bloomberg....

You know, I have heard lots of horror stories about UPS and this just seals it. I will never ship anything via UPS. Yeah there is the idiot sheeple that got the guns and got all scared that it would sneak out and shoot him while he was sleeping, but my real concern here is that the guy that bought and paid for the guns legally will never see them. I bet that DC police will be real cooperative about giving his property back.

I'm voting for upper Northwest. Probably not far from American University between Wisconsin Ave and Palisades. Nice neighborhoods. Some fairly odd people.

Anybody see the address where the package was delivered?
