Let me guess they want something like $9,000 for it too.

Took me 3 months to find a 4x4 beater after moving up here after looking at several they're either overpriced or broken or both. Nothing like asking blue book from something that's been wrecked, rusted out and the 4wd doesn't work.

Ended up eventually finding a lifted Bronco for $2500, which is what I think is fair for a old 4wd that runs and has working 4wd. Been driving it a year now and gonna start a engine swap in it this afternoon.

I also ended up with a 78 bronco for 1400 it's the perfect mountain beater in my opinion. What I learned if you ask if the 4x4 works and they say I've never used it that means it doesn't work

Or even better you try the 4wd during a test drive and when it doesn't work they ask what the hell you did to it, and then 5 seconds later claim they've never put it in 4wd the entire time they've owned it.

I like the ones that bury the "bad motor" in the middle of how great the stereo works. Or "I think it might have a blown head gasket" in the list of not so goods. If you want to sell your failed ricer project, at least remove all the big ricer stickers off the window.

Got the big 4x covered. I need a commuter. Subys fit the bill. Looking at the small/medium trucks isn't any better.

Looked at one locally last week. I knew the guy in passing. I also knew the mechanic. The car was rode hard and put up wet and the owner was forced to fix it. Needless to say, he wanted to make bank on it.

Fun times.

I often wonder if they spell things wrong on purpose. "I never said it would pass an emissions test".

That model year carries a DOHC EJ25D which is notorious for blown head gaskets. They'll typically go around 150,000 miles.
Try to find one with a SOHC Ej25, as they're more reliable.I used to have a '96, shit just hit the fan right at 205k miles.
Other than that, overall they're solid cars. The engine oil needs an eye on it as the boxer design does like to burn oil.

Thanks. I have owned five Subys through the years. Every Suby mechanic will tell you to check the head gasket. [Tooth]
