2 shot during apparent west side robbery

Two men were shot during an apparent robbery Wednesday at the Smoker King Liquor Store at 1951 W. Uintah St., Colorado Springs police said.
The robbers went into the shop just before 10 p.m. and both they and clerks in the store pulled guns, said Sgt. Chris Newton. Several shots were fired and both robbers were hit, she said.
According to police radio calls, one of the men was shot in the chest. No information on their conditions was available.
One of the wounded men was taken to Memorial Hospital Central and the other was taken to Penrose Hospital, Newton said.
The other businesses in the small shopping center were closed when the shooting occurred.
UPDATE (6:56 a.m.): Both injured men are expected to survive but are in serious or critical condition, according to police.
