You find yourself in a Land of Liars and Truth-Tellers while on your way to meet a mysterious friend who has invited you to meet him in one of the local villages.

As you journey along the jungle path to your destination, you come to a cross-roads. Being that there is no sign to correctly point you in the right direction of the village, and not knowing which path will take you to the village you are looking for, you decide to ask a native.

The thing about the natives is they all look exactly the same. They dress the same, talk the same, and will only ever answer one question from anyone else. The only difference is; one tribe will always tell you a lie, and the other will always tell you the truth.

Not knowing whether or not the native will tell you the truth or lie to you, what one question can you ask that will tell you the correct path to the village?

"I've got some post for God here."

Is that supposed to be a riddle or a question? Or??

It's a question tangentially related to the original riddle.

Well then, questions should end in question marks, statements should end in periods. Your 3rd grade teacher would be ashamed [Coffee]

Indirect questions don't end with question marks. The question was "does anyone get this reference?" but was phrased indirectly.

But you're just mad that you're not getting the ammo :D

Source(s): the language we're discussing is named after the country that I'm from, therefore I win!

"Which way to your village" and then go the way he points.

"Which way to your village" and then go the way he points.

Wrong. If you are asking the liar, you will go the wrong way.

Its hard to read it in Karl's voice. And you forgot the last part 'and it needs to be signed for'.

Not the answer I was looking for, but I think Jayock's solution would still work.

Do we have to roll the 12 sided die on this one?

Which way will Obama me to go? Then go the opposite.

Here I fix it for ya.

Which way will the other tribe tell me to go? Then go the opposite.

I immediately figured this out and Jayock has the same answer as I would have... it helps that I just watched Labyrinth the other day and this same dilemma came up in that. [Beer]

The answer I was looking for was; "If I asked you if this road went to the village, would you say yes?".

If the road did go to the village, and the native was a truth teller, he would say "yes".
If the road did go to the village, and the native was a liar, he would normally lie and say "no" if you only asked him about the path specifically. But because you asked him if he would say "yes", he would lie about his answer (which would be no), he would also say "yes".

I think I like Jayock's answer better (it's less complicated).

If it was a liar, the native would lie about what the other tribe would say, and point to the wrong path.
If it was a truth teller, the native would tell the truth and also point to the wrong path.

Yup, that's why I agreed with Jayock's answer...

"What would a member of the opposite tribe say if I asked them where this path led?"
