Which one?!?! I can't choose!

I own neither but, if I was in the market for a new CCW, I would chose the XDs simply because I would prefer to carry something in .45ACP

Now, if we were talking about choosing between the XDs and a Glock 36, that for me would be a toss up.

I don't like the high profile slide and slide weight of the xd- any model. No experience with the m&p but everyone says its an American Glock... So it's almost a Glock.

I would idly speculate you will be better served with the m&p

Shoot 'em both and see what fits you best.

I voted shield. If I only want 5 shots, I'll carry a wheel gun.

This gun would be a summer carry/dress clothes carry alternative when I don't have the XDm .45 compact (Amazing gun!). It would also be my wife's winter carry, when the .380 is even less adequate (winter coats and such) than in the summer. Winter carry for the wife will be the number 1 use for the gun. My wife loves M&P's, I Love XD's. Not to start a caliber war, but 9mm looks like it might be a generally better performer than .45 in these uber short barrels, when using JHP ammo in either caliber. Plus the 9mm will hold a couple extra rounds, which could be very useful to her, since she doesn't train much. I am not married to one caliber for my own carry needs, either. It would be nice to use the same ammo that I use in my main carry gun for this gun, but 9mm is so darn cheap! It looks like I just chose the Shield, doesn't it? [ROFL1]

I really really like my M&P 9c -- better Glock than Glock :P

The 9 Shield is very intriguing because you get the slim sexiness of a single-stack like the 1911 along with the clean profile, easy shooting and light weight of the M&P compacts.

The fact that M&Ps are made in CT rather than Croatia is just another plus.

I really think either one will work nicely. I do prefer the feel of the M&P over Glock, but I really like my XDm 3.8" .45! Comes down to fit/feel/controllability.

I had a xd 40 sc loved the gun. Sold it because I wanted something lighter and smaller. Bought a Kahr CM9 which I think is the best ccw gun I have ever owned.

The shield is a comfortable gun that shoots great, Highly recommend. 9mm+p works fine, my penis doesn't need a .45

I've shot both, I slightly prefer the XDs, however I think I was just impressed with how accurate and controllable it was for a .45 pocket gun. That being said my CCW is a Kahr cw9 and I love it.

Answered your own question.

Should also score bonus points if she thinks her desires were your primary motivation. She will be so happy she will encourage you to but another that you like.[Beer]

.45... XDS all the way. If anyone is a member at triggertime they have a rental of it.

XDs is my vote. Accurate, same size and a more powerful caliber. They also make 7rd mags for it as well if you are that concerned about only having 5+1 rounds. But I am biased since I own one and don't care for 9mm's

Waiting for XDs 9mm

I was just telling one of my customers that the other day.

I shot the xds and it fricken hurt something about the back strap that destroyed my hand. The g36 is much easier to shoot. I have never shot an m&p so I cant offer insight on that one

Looked at a Shield the other day at a LGS. Looks and feels great. LGS says if I want one, I will be #52 on his wait list. Geez!

I own a 9mm Shield, but have shot the XDS as well. Apples and Oranges to me, If you can shoot the XDS well and can handle the pretty significant recoil, that may be the better choice. However, for me I am much faster with follow up shots with the Shield, and like the 9mm ammo prices a LOT more than 45 ACP. Now when Springer comes out with a 9/40 XDS or S&W comes out with a 45 ACP Shield, direct comparisons can really be made.

I love the .45 acp but I am not sure if you get its full advantages from that short of a barrel and that size of frame. I prefer the sheild and that is what I bought.

Haven't shot a shield yet but my buddy has an XDs and I shot that on sunday. The thing is pretty rough in the recoil department and unless your wife is an avid pistol shooter and doesn't mind heavy recoil I'd say go for the Shield.

I think if it were my choice I'd go with the shield as well.
